Infinity Ward Not Making Call of Duty 5?
By Jonathan on Friday, September 14th, 2007 at 12:57 PM PST In Activision, Call of Duty, Computer, Games Industry, Microsoft, Sony

While everyone seems to be oohing and aahing at the upcoming Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, it seems that Infinity Ward may not be developing Call of Duty 5. Don’t fret just yet though, as they’ll most likely be back for CoD6. Awhile back, publisher Activision decided they wanted to have a new Call of Duty game out every year, which didn’t leave enough time for Infinity Ward to create the games they wanted to. So a compromise was made after CoD2: Infinity Ward would get two years to make another title, and the franchise would be handled by developer Treyarch in the interim. This explains why CoD3 may have seemed quite a bit different from CoD2. It hasn’t been confirmed, but it seems that this deal may carry over into the next game as well. During that time though, Infinity Ward will also be doling out new downloadable content (maps, weapons, perks, etc.) for CoD4.
This sounds like a pretty good compromise to me, since it keeps both the publisher and the developers happy. I figure a great Call of Duty game every two years is better than a so-so one every year.

Asan44, Every one of my points were regarding perks, namely Martyrdom, Juggernaut, Deep Impact, and Stopping Power. Hardcore team-Deathmatch in CoD4 is realistic because there are none, simple as that. And give me a break man…you defend CoD4 way too much. People don’t have the ability to pull the pin after being shot square in the head, and killed. Everybody knows that perk is not realistic at all. Suicides certainly, but not after they are already dead.
Def17, you’re right about that. I was just referring to the Deep Impact perk that makes bullets of any type pierce thicker walls when it just wouldn’t happen in real life. I don’t want to split hairs, but in terms of reality, Infinity Ward goofed. http://youtube.com/watch?v=G6BpI3xD6h0 – check that out (it’s actually a pretty cool video). The 5.56mm round from the m16 (probably one of the most commonly used guns in multiplayer) barely penetrates at all, and yet, with or without Deep Impact, it can shoot people through walls just as effectively as the AK-47 in CoD4.
Silva86, maybe they upgraded the weapons since that version. Never the less, it’s a game based on realism. Allthough a m16 wont penetrade a big beton wall 5 meters thick, it “might” penetrade a wood wall. I also think IW has got a good job with the M4/16 against the Ak-47 with muzzle climb and recoil. The Ak may be strong, but it climbs up fast.
Silva86 really doesn’t know what he is talking about it seems..
Call of Duty 4, a campers dream?
You see where they killed you from… that eliminates camping. toss a grenade where they killed you from if they are camping, done and done.
and the perks aren’t meant to be realistic because online play is not realistic.. you don’t spawn when you die.. its meant to balance it out and make it actually fun, instead of pure run and gun.
CoD3 is a terrible game, and if you have spent all that time playing it.. I pity you terribly.
plz contact me if you wont to get any ideas for call of duty 5
Well Yermom (nice name
) say a guy’s camping. With some the big flaws the grenade has in CoD 4, (like if you throw it below a table and hop on it, you don’t die) it is possible the guy survives. But is Silva’s “camping” staying in one area for the entire time, or staying in a general area for a long time.
I strongly believe that multiplayer for COD 4 is not meant to be realistic. Multiplayer is just to have fun. I would say that the Single-Player Campaign is more realistic, even though it is short. IW was still pretty accurate with the guns, but still, ever game will have its flaws. It is senseless arguing over a game. Some enjoy it, some don’t, thats just the facts. The weapons and other things may be flawed, but we all have to agree that the graphics are amazing.
I have no clue what COD 5 will be about, but we’ll all just have to wait and see. WW2 is definately overused, but if Treyarch does make it, whatever the subject is, hopefully, it will be good. WW1 can be good, there was more to the war than Trench fighting. Vietnam or something pertaining to the Soviets may be interesting too. I would assume that the next installment would be more fiction based.
Ok, COD 5 has been confirmed, and it is going to be WW2. But rumor has it, that it may take place in the Pacific. Which is a part of WW2 that was not used as much. The Medal of Honor franchise was the last to try this with their MOH: Pacific Assault. They may include British battles with Japan in the South-East Asia area. Treyarch IS making it.
The only flaw I can see in the multiplayer or the general weapon build is that the 5.56 mm bullets are too “strong” after hitting a surface than in the real life. In the real life, when a M16/m4 bullet hit flesh, the front part will slow down in speed, while the back part of the bullet will continue in speed. This means a break of the bullet and that hurts the person more….. so… it’s not a very good “anti-person-behind-wall” weapon I guess
Owh and you can snipe with the Desert Eagle… If you can aim for those stupid block iron sights… =)
Hmmm… This is not good news at all. After all, CoD3 was an extremely poor game compared to CoD4. The voice acting was poor, the fact that you get hit nearly point blank by explosions nearly every thirty seconds was just plain frustrating, and there was no kill cam. Granted, they did have some nice vehicle segments and the occasional button-mashing hand-to-hand combat was nice… But there was no water-cooler moments like in CoD4. After all, Infinity Ward was very meticilous to their attention to detail and the quality of the story. It wasn’t just a squad running through an unrealistic number of scenarios, it was FLAIR. There are so many unique action moments in CoD4, it’s not even funny. There is NO boring repitition in the game at all, what with the warhead going off in the middle of an American army, a flashback mission where you get to shoot the bad-guy’s arm off from half a mile away, two massive missiles nearly hitting America, and a really well-done ending scene that ends with you having to watch the character’s you’ve grown attached to getting killed. Tell me you didn’t say “Oh fuck” whenever you saw Zakhaev execute Gaz on the bridge, or Griggs go down with gun blazing.
And yet, after all that, they STILL want Treyarch to do CoD5?
“Let’s go back to WWII!” “But the series just broke away from WWII, successfully, and is even better WITHOUT WWII!” “Exactly! We’ll just move to a different aspect of the war, and completely ruin the expectations of so many fans.” “Ooh, excellent idea sir!” Blegh.
Hopefully this time we can at least bayonet the Japanese and maybe, at least, keep most of the successful elements that made CoD4 so great (sadly, the Javelin will no longer be able to save your sorry ass from those crazy tanks). If Treyarch wants CoD5 to be successful, they’ll need to put a WHOLE lot more effort into the game, since apparantly all they want to do is milk it for cash. A feature where you could save allies in Last Stand mode would be awesome, like maybe carrying them or dragging them to a safe area (like in Army of Two, which looks promising to say the least). And if they don’t ah well. We’ll just have to wait for CoD6. –fingers crossed, gentlemen!–
cant peek around corners wtf
Yermom, it seems you don’t know what the term “camping” even means. If I am sitting in a corner, at the top of some stairs, just waiting for people to walk up so I can mow them before they even have the chance to pull the trigger, I am camping. It doesn’t matter if you know where they are after they already killed you. Also, there are plenty of spots where throwing a grenade won’t help. Call of Duty 4 makes for great camping online because the levels are small, with lots of dead ends and corners…It’s really that simple.
And just to clarify, I play the Call of Duty series mainly for the online modes. Had I been more of a campaign type of player, I probably wouldn’t like CoD3 nearly as much. I’ve already said CoD4 had a better campaign than 3, by far. All I’ve ever tried to get across was that (keeping in mind that I still play CoD4 all the time) I find the CoD3 online mode to be a lot more enjoyable, and I’m fairly certain that I’ve stated the reasons as to why, plenty of times.
Now excuse me while I go finish my 7th prestige mode
I wish CoD 5 Could be Bio Chemical Warfare
so theres going to be a call of duty 5 in either 2009 or 2010… i hope there is because cod4 was fucking awsome
they should make cod5 as an alternative past to the cold war, with russia attacking on us soil, fighting in washington .. new york.. siberia..moskva and so on
I personally liked all the COD games but 4 is the best by far. I love online play especially. It will be hard to top it.
@ Spartex
We are talking a Call of duty version of Battlefield 2142?
I wouldn’t mind
I cod1 is better then all the others
ww2 is a nice war but i thing it is very used for cod treyarch must do something like spartex says it will be much beter than ww2
fuck treyarch
!they keep on messing up the series
. Wake me up when cod 6 is out
Does everyone forget about United Offensive??? That was by far the best COD game ever made, and done by the Treyarch crew. COD1 was balls before Treyarch came in and made the UO expansion. COD2 was very popular but was a really crappy made game. Does everyone forget the lack of download redirects, no mod tools in the beginning, crappy ripoffs of COD1 maps, no vehicles….so on and so forth. It wasn’t until the mods and custom maps started coming out that COD2 really took off. Obviously COD3 not being released for PC left no chance for modders to get their hands on it and really enhance the gameplay. If COD5 comes out as console only, I bet it does very poorly. If it is a multi-platform release, it will be huge. I have been running COD servers for about 3 years now and have tried pretty much every map, mod and addon imaginable….It’s the community that makes the game great, not the developer so much. Just give us a little more to work with…Which Treyarch seems to do a better job of.
silva86 is an idiot and a pedophile.
Enough said!
Treyarch…make your cutscenes skippable…
i think that each call of duty where great and actually that the original one is the best of all time, but if anyone new that all the creators of each call of duty spent most of their time on building an authentic and realistic singleplayer. im getting sick off all these ppl bagging on COD3 but the truth is that is has an awesome singleplayer and so did all the other ones. so please dont judge these games on their multiplayer.
I liked COD3 more than COD4 because I liked the fact you have medics and vehicles and I HATE the fact you get to see how the person killed you, it takes away all the fun in finding the person. So I think COD5 will kick COD4’s ass.
To Silva
Yes, people can drop a live grenade when they die, a lot of people do it with the chance. Yes, some people have more “health” than other people. We’re different that way. Some people go down easy, some a lot harder. Yes, people can make their bullets do more damage in RL, it’s called changing the bullet type. Yes, people can make the bullets shoot through thicker walls, it’s called armor piercing bullets. Yes, people do walk around with guns painted in blue, red, and gold painted guns. They want to die that way.
Fuck Treyarch. Infinity ward rules
informative posts… thanks. COD4 is the best yet. IMO All I can say is Im addicted, Ill fork ya a $50 every year for this title and $60 if IW makes it! good stuff
COD series sucks!
jk man it rocks
whatever man im just glad its on wii whatver if its ww2 or modern warfare ill buy it
CaptianBlaze….I’m all for the weed, assuming that’s what you’re referring to in your name, but you smoke too much.
1. You honestly think people run around a real live battlefield with painted, and gold plated guns? Use your head.
2. Ofcourse some people can take more punishment than others, but they can’t adjust that ability at will.
3. Most of the guns you see in the game can only be used with 1 type of ammunition. You can’t put an elephant bullet in an M-16. Research the guns, they are designed to use one size of ammunition, and nothing can magically change how much “damage” they do.
4. You obviously didn’t read my other posts. M-16s cannot pierce walls, it’s proven in the youtube video I posted earlier. Other guns are no better off, either. The MP5’s 9mm wouldn’t stand a chance, just like the other sub-machine guns.
5. Why do you even bother arguing the Martyrdom perk? Pull your head out of Infinity Ward’s ass, and use it for a second- after being shot and killed, a human being is not capable of having the awareness and mental clarity to pull a pin on a grenade. They are dead. They can’t move. If you somehow still think otherwise, you need medical attention.
this is the gayest shit ive ever heard
I agree with Silva86. multiplayer in cod3 was more realistic because there were no perks and you couldn’t win by camping. the only problem was the glitches and lag problems (vehicles, support gunners, etc). If treyarch can fix those problems in cod5, it will be a great game. but dont get me wrong, cod4 has a great multiplayer mode, and if I just want to have some fun Ill go back and play cod4
cod4 kick arse cod3 shit compared to number 4. but for number 5 should do something differnt. but the same controls.
And online u should be able to get vehicles
cod5 can be a continue of number 4
its a complete joke that they are letting treyarch do cod 5 IW!! are the best game making company ever so stick to IW because all of the gamers love the new modern gaming so dont change it keep going IW!!!!!
First off, the gold thing was a joke, second, the Juggernaut perk is meant to represent the SOLDIER, which means, that specific SOLDIER has can take more punishment. Also, you must not have heard of different bullet types. For example, there is one bullet type called a JSP, or Jacketed Soft Point. It’s not exactly legal, but some soldiers still manage to sneak it in. Research it if you don’t believe me. OK, so maybe I was wrong about the wall thing and the Martyrdom thing, but for everything else, I’m sure of.
cod 4 is possibally the best game i have ever played on in my life and how can anyone have the nerve to even say cod 3 is better then they need medical attention because all they are doin is taking a backward step by going back to ww2 because why do you think that this game is the best selling game ever and just become platinum so keep going IW!! you make the best games ever!!!
mcfc avery
do u even know what call of duty means u fuckhead??
DUHHHHH another internet dumbass
yh i do know the game you little scrote so if i was you i would shut ur mouth u little clopter n do u even know the game so be quiet
Call of Duty 5 is rumored to be in the pacific in WWII AGAIN. what a letdown. Infinity Ward knows how to make games. Treyarch doesn’t.
I LOVE BOOBS
WWII would still be cool but i really think they should be creative and do something like civil war or WWI or maybe make somehting fictional like the cold war between the US and the soviet union turning to a hot war
and call of duty 3 isn’t TERRIBLE like a lot of people on here are saying. I didn’t hate it but i didn’t think it was better than COD2 either i only played it more because it was new and had new features like medics artillery strikes and vehicles, and also i had played cod2 for 360 since it came out and i sorta got bored of it. one thing about people saying cod4 would be better with vehicles. It MIGHT but i would always get pissed when on CoD 3 some asshole got in a tank and owned my whole team. I like IW more but i will give credit to treyarch for putting new features like sprint, character classes and all the others i have mentioned but, imo IW perfected those features. Also realism isn’t a big priority of mine, CoD4 is one of the most realistic games as far as graphics go. Perks and bullet damage might not be so realistic but you learn to deal with it
you no i love my cod4 even though they screwed up the kill cam but cod3 was great and i think infinity ward should go make cod5 based on a nuclear war between us and the aussies so treyarch kiss my ass make a new war game infinity ward
