ps3 xmb In Game Communication Coming to PS3 This Summer

Ray Maguire, Sony Computer Entertainment UK’s head, recently spilled the beans on an upcoming feature the PlayStation 3 will be getting – in-game communication. Presumably this means being able to have a private chat with friends while playing a game, similar to what you can do on Xbox Live.

Speaking with MCV on the PlayStation 3 reaching one million units at retail in the UK – a mark surpassed faster than either the PlayStation or PlayStation 2 – Maguire stated, “Our momentum will continue with the introduction of in-game communication in the summer, firmware update 2.4 and the strongest line-up of games through our third party partners and our own studios. I’d personally like to thank our trade and business partners for helping us on the start of the PS3 journey.”

Now it’s unclear whether or not in-game communication is directly a part of firmware v2.4 or if he was referring to two separate items. Hopefully v2.4 will include in-game XMB support, and that will be what enables you to chat with friends while in-game. I know I’d really like to see support added for the feature, so fingers crossed that this is the case.

Hmmm…from my previous experiences with hearing the phrase “Summer Release”, I expect this to come out in early September. If it comes out any earlier than that, then it’d be a plus

I’ve been doing this on the 360 for how many years now???

LoL weedman, I cannot wait to get a PS3 (already have the 360 and Wii) just so I can feel bad for you for being such a tool.

this “console war” is a joke, how about backing a real cause.

As for the In game chat, they really should have had it right off the bat, but hopefully it will be in for MGS4!

Yawn. PS3 is so PS2003. They should be focusing on PS4, not wasting time on the defunt…

Jimmy my friend, that was the dumbest statement i have ever heard. But i will give you the benefit of the doubt and say it was a joke…i hope it was.

You’ve been paying for XBL for how many years? You’ve had how many red rings? (if your answer is 0, you are either lying or very lucky). Please never compare the superior system (Ps3) with a great system as well (360). The ps3 has a dream line up this year, 360 has a decent line up. ps3 is the most powerful gaming machine out there, the 360 is a good system with high failure rate. both are great systems, but don’t act like 360 is better. It just had a head start, because Sony knows the business and sold as many ps2’s as they could. Whereas MS barely let the Xbox build a foundation for itself before they began to work on the 360.

  6. It’s about time! XBox has had this for a while now and not to mention PC games like Epic’s Unreal Tournament which have had in-game communication for years now.
