Huh?: Tamagotchi Movie in the Works

According to Reuters, there is actually a movie in production based on the Tamagotchi virtual pets. The movie will be animated and feature several of the little creatures living on a star and a little girl showing up at their home. It is set to be released in December and will be distributed by Toho Co.

I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised by this, since the Tamagotchis are still pretty popular and anything that’s popular eventually gets a movie. But how they managed to take the little egg-shaped toys and churn out a movie on them still astounds me.
