Microsoft banning 12v fan modders is an URBAN LEGEND. Ever notice the only person who's ever been banned for it is that one guy at 360patches? The power supply has plenty of power to spare, adding a damned fan isn't going to strain the system enough to lower voltage on ANYTHING.

So go ahead and RROD your unit while I play on Live with a nice and cool modded box.

http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEAlkApEFkJwVSJWAg.php

You CAN have your console banned for having a 12v fan mod. A very trusted user of www.360patches.com got told directly from MS reps that his fan was modded on his 360 and that it violates the TOA. Any modification of hardware does indeed violate the TOA, so legally they reserve the right to ban users from live for that reason. Petty yes, but justified. A fan mod would be reasonably easy to detect, as voltage metering is something standard in all bios for the past 10 or so years.

Thanks for that typical stupid response Dafsfs.

The loudest part of the 360 isn't its fans, it's by far the optical drive. That thing sounds like an aircraft turbine when it spins up. It's rather annoying. The fan isn't.

My PC and 360 share the same room, and the 360's fan under full (worst case scenario) load doesn't even come close to my PC's fan noise when idle. I have to literally put my ear to the back of the 360 to hear it.

Then again, not all 360s are the same.

I'm sorry but Microsoft arent going to ban you because of your fan using more or less power. If for instance you fitted a water cooling block and removed the fans how would Microsoft know that they didn't just stop working?

I suppose it comes down to whether you are willing to take the risk of financial loss for better/quieter performance. Personally the last graphics card I bought cost me over $700 but the first thing I did after unpacking it and making sure it worked was to void the warranty by removing the standard cooler and fitting a better aftermarket one.

I dont know how much Moneysoft can see, but i dont doubt it. I would think this would Void your warranty and if moneysoft does have some magic way of detecting the change im sure the result would be a perminant ban.

this is a super easy fix, but its not worth getting banned for or void your warranty. if its over heating dont use the wet towel trick some kid got electrocuted trying it.

LEAVE IT ALONE!! if it Dies send it to Moneysoft!

Dont do it. Your xbox will get banned, heard somewhere that msoft can see everyones bios, and any change in the power used anywhere in the console such as the fan itself the console will get banned, pretty annoying really as the intention of a new fan would be to make your console last longer.
