home Home Beta Getting Significant Update Next Week

For those of you who are lucky enough to be participating in the beta of PlayStation Home, you can expect to see a substantial update next week that will bring Home up to version 0.8.3. This information comes from the Home beta boards at PlayStation.com, which someone emailed to PS3 Fanboy.

A new addition to the Virtual PSP will allow you to view your friends list and see who is online, offline, and online in Home – which should make it much easier to keep track of your buddies. The actual interface for the Virtual PSP has been, as has Home’s entire user interface. In terms of graphics, you expect to see some improvements there as well with new HDR effects and support for 1080p.

Videos can now be streamed, which should prove to be a popular feature; previously you needed to download an entire video file before you could begin watching it. There have also been fixes to game launching from inside Home, and your Home space will have more furniture available and a much better view from the balcony.

There’s truly a lot to go over, so if you’re interested in the full blown list, head over to PS3 Fanboy.

Home has to be the biggest joke in the history of gaming in my opinion. When i sit down at a console with a controller i’m there to play a game, not dick around in some Sims meets MySpace chat room.

And you have the option to do that. So what’s wrong with giving this option to people who don’t share your opinion?

Actually the last console i bought was a Dreamcast, so there goes trying to define everyone that dont agree with you as “Just a Jelous Xbox Fanboy”. The reason i havent got a console since then is mainly because of crap exactly like this. I used to buy video game consoles to play VIDEO GAMES on.. wow what a concept. Seems to me that the 3 big console makers are trying to make they’re consoles into something between a PC and a home theater set-up, and jacking the price of the console up exponentially. And Chris the reason i have a problem with Home in particular is simple, they time, money, and resources being devoted to it could be spent elsewhere actually making GAMES!

Again, this is my opinion and I really dont give a rats ass if any of you all agree with it.

Heru-Ur – I agree with you to a certain extend. The problem is that these social network sites are the biggest sites on the web. It’s supplying the obvious demand that lies out there.

On the other hand, I don think the quality of games has been affected that much. The big games developers aren’t choosing whether to go one way or the other. They are doing both or neither.

I don’t have the pleasure of a PS3 or XBox360 yet (still enjoying my xbox and loving my games on that still!) but I think any advance in this industry is good for all. It’ll open the market up to the likes of the Wii who are focussing on gaming enjoyment and leaving the multimedia stuff to the Microsoft and Sony’s of the world to battle.

I look forward to seeing what Home will offer. I’m not saying it’ll drive me to pay the £300 for a PS3, but if nothing else, it’ll keep the socialites off the gaming levels and let the real gamers do what we do best…. FRAG FRAG FRAG!

Alright, your furstration about being able to play games on your system is just silly. Companies like EA, Sega, etc. make games for system. That is their job. That pays for their bread and butter and Sony can not, nor does want to compete with that market. Why would sony spend their time and resources on making a hockey game when that is already EA’s market. They bring out a few games but will not try to support a whole library.

Now that I have gotten that out of the way, home, to my understanding, is a sim/half life network were you can roam free and do everything from play online games, stream blu-ray movies, compete and meet people as well as demo new games and see upcoming releases. Better hook up your credit cards to this bad boy. Anyhow I cant wait for this to be released, hopefully you will be able to PVR the movies with Sony Play. But hey we will see what happens.

This made me laugh, this guy has no clue, no background at all and doesnt see the concept clearly of what home is about. I like the fact my ps3 is like a pc and a home theatre because it means that i dont need to shell out on the others, also, if there wasnt a ps3 or xbox360 where would u look to to get a similiar gaming experience… the pc? and how much does a high end gaming pc cost? exactly…! i hate people that get more for there money and its not good enough. and to be honest, as someone who doesnt own any next gen consoles how can your opinion even have any weight at all!
