Obviously, this news is bad for HD-DVD. Blu-Ray continues to gain support in this battle. I’d still like to know where Star Wars is in all of this. If HD-DVD or Blu-Ray could snag Star Wars, that would be an achievement hard to mess with. HD-DVD still has the bigger line-up, but some may argue that HD-DVD is also releasing a large number of old stock movies. With the way things are going lately, I think the neverending HD vs. Blu-Ray debate may come to a close quicker than we expected. I’m sure by mid-2008, we will have our answers and can finally put all this drama behind us.

Optimum Home Entertainment has announced that they will be releasing ‘Wolf Creek’, ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’, and ‘The Host’ for Blu-ray on November 12th in the UK. Previously, Optimum only supported HD DVD, but with their recent Blu-ray announcements, it’s clear that they recognize the markets are turning in Blu-ray’s favor.

An interesting side note: Optimum is owned by StudioCanal, who releases on HD DVD in Europe. Could they be next to turn?

Star Wars films are distributed by 20th Century Fox and they are exclusively supporting Blu Ray.
