ratchet and clank future tools of destruction screen Having Trouble Installing Ratchet & Clank?

There’s apparently a glitch in the recently released Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction that prevents users from installing game files to their hard drive. When copying files to your hard drive, the game will tell you there’s not enough room on the hard drive – even if you do have enough room.

“With specific amounts of free space on your drive, you may see a screen that tells you have insufficient space to create game data even though there is plenty of free space on your drive,” Insomniac Games’ James Stevenson told Shacknews. “When this occurs, either delete or add about 500MB of data to your hard drive and the problem will go away.”

Doesn’t seem like a big deal, although it is an annoyance nonetheless.

This seems like a really big pain imo.
If you’re deleting 500mb chances are that’s 500mb you wanted. Adding 500mb? what he wants us to install a new hdd?

  2. SpiralGray says:

500MB could be another game demo. You can probably always download it again.

Given that the smallest PS3 has a 20GB drive in it, I fail to see why adding 500MB would require you get a new drive.

No but it might take HOURS to do it. I know my PSNet performance for store downloads are atrocious. I can download a single huge 360 Demo in the time it takes to get the PSNet downloader to increment one or two percent – don’t bother to tell me its a problem with my network- that fish don’t swim.

Sorry but I dont believe you. It might be a bit slower but my friend downloaded the 977mb Skate demo to his PS3 in about 2 hours. I doubt he could have downloaded it in less than 3 mins on a 360 which is what the figures you gave indicate. Do you really think anyone will believe you that its over 50 times faster on the 360?

Lets try a little experiment shall we? Here is a link for the US skate demo:

I have a crap internet connection of only 1mb but even I was downloading with an ETA of 2hr 14mins.

How do you add 500mb to your hdd?

there’s a difference between deleting data and adding space.

  6. Joelteon7 says:

Norbit, it was probably an exaggeration, but I do understand his point though.

This is a bit of a shocking problem though. Do game developers actually test out their games now before they’re released or just hope for the best and patch their way through it? (I cite evidence of Command and Conquer 3, to name one)

You have to add 500mb of data. Just download a demo.

I agree, its bizarre and lazy how something like this can get through.

BTW that Skate link from PSN that I posted was obviously wrong :???:

Here is the real one if you wanted to see just ‘how slow’ it is to download from psn:

Yes, of course there is, which is why the article said, “either delete or add about 500MB of data to your hard drive…” You must have skipped over the “of data” portion of that quote. Frankly, even if that hadn’t even been in the original quote, most people probably would have figured out that he meant “of data” not physical space, given that the latter interpretation would be just a tad ridiculous, don’t you think?

  10. A note to all says:

to the folks talking about psn download time; my psn is crazy fast! that skate demo you all talk about took me 10 min. my connection is fast so my downloads are fast. don’t blame the psn for your slow connection.

    500mb, WTF?

This is disgraceful. The game developers should be embarrassed.

Whats worst is I tried deleting some data off my HDD and I still got the error.

I wonder if I still have the receipt.

  13. Damien says:

@spiralgray “given that the latter interpretation would be just a tad ridiculous”

The only thing ridiculous here is a demo which requires you to add 500mb of data to your HDD. It’s is actually quite reasonable for someone to have mistaken “adding data” with “adding space.”
