 Your right Ppl/H8r, there is alot of disbelief in our blue spikey hero. We need to give Sega more credit. I agree with you, Shadow put a new spin on the Sonic franchise. I believe that Sega has a new project in the works and I believe and know it will be amazing, just like every other game Sonic Team has dreamed up for the past 22 yrs.

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle was amazing. Anyway, why the plot line hate? Also, why the Shadow hate? Personally I thought that game was amazing!
I don't know about ya'll but Sonic's goona take a turn for the better when he turns around and kicks some gamer-ass for all the non believers!

Well im a big fan sonic and i have been since of the age of 4 and i have to agree with you guys, i miss the old sega megadrive sonic games where it was basic controls and those fun 2D environments where you wouldnt get stuck. Not like todays games, confusing 3D environments, those upgrade pieces of crap sonic has to collect to progress thoughter. I think sega made a big mistake in sonic adventure where you had to do 6 character story lines, i liked the story line but it got confusing when you finished sonics story and then started tails from the begining and so on. WTF was up with big, it was so frusterating fishing, it was stupid. The 3D sonic game i liked the most was sonic adventure 2 that was great, especially when shadow died. Sonic mega collection was great but Sega went straight down hill with sonic heroes that was ok......butttt then from shadow the hedghehog onwards sega couldnt come up with great games anymore. I still bought all of them but they werent really good. Sonic and the secret rings was ok but the minigames graphics were terrible it was like going back 8 years, the graphics were like nintendo 64 graphics. I really hope sega comes up with a great game on wii preferably with the old skool controller to come back with mario.
P.S I hope they put sonic in smash bros brawl.

Look, I know a lot of people out there love the Sonic franchise, but lets face it, Sega really blew it with these last few games. For example, Sonic 2006 was plagued with buggy controls, sloppy camera angles, pathetically long load times, and an environment with poor collision detection. On top of that, the game had an awkward storyline, a boatload of underdeveloped characters, and an endless montage of side missions that you had to complete simply to advance the game. In order for Sega to save the Sonic series from dying out, several things would have to happen.

Step 1: Trim down the character lineup

First of all, we need to bring back the characters that made the franchise successful (Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles) and make them the only playable characters for at least a few games. The Sonic series really started to go downhill when its ranks were flooded by characters like Big the Cat, Charmy Bee, and Vector the Crocodile. Even as NPCs, these characters simply weigh down the storyline and draw the spotlight away from Sonic. It also gets pretty annoying when an entirely new set of characters are brought in to forge a new plot (i.e. Silver the Hedgehog, Mephiles the dark, Iblis, etc.). Instead of adding a brand new cast of villains and heroes every time a new Sonic game comes out, Sega should make Dr. Robotnik the main villain again. On top of that, they should develop him into the mad scientist psychopath that he once was, and not this idiotic ass clown that sides with Sonic every time he thinks his plans are screwed.

Step 2: Make an interesting storyline

This part coincides with the first part in which Sega should stop substituting a good storyline with a new character lineup. Dr. Robotnik should be made the main villain and he needs to be an absolute psychopath. Instead of making a story about mythical creatures and princesses, Sega should make a storyline where Sonic is flung several years into a post apocalyptic future, where Dr. Robotnik has conquered his entire planet. Sonic must locate his lost friends and gather the Chaos Emeralds in order to go back to his time and correct the future. Now THAT would be an awesome storyline, without the cheesy extra characters.

Step 3: Fix the technical issues

Sega really needs to give their programmers a lot more time to polish their games before they're released. Even with the superfluous characters and tacked on storyline, Sonic's recent games are really let down by its technical problems. The camera angles need to be worked out, the collision detection needs to be improved, and the controls need to be fine tuned. The solution? Sega should limit their MAJOR sonic releases to one per platform generation. Just look at the Mario series. Mario 64 was the only major Mario title for the N64. Super Mario Sunshine was the only major Mario title for the Gamecube. And now, Super Mario Galaxy is going to be the only major Mario title for the Wii. Sega should focus more on quality rather than quantity on their Sonic titles.

End Rant.

I'm not saying he is beyond a comeback, but he needs an amazing game to keep from fading into obscurity.. sorry Secret Rings fans.. I hated the game personally. Sonic has not had a "great game" since Sonic 3. Sure..some of his later games weren't the worst games ever, but they certainly weren't worth remembering much about either. Perhaps Sega should think about things and try taking some new approaches with certain things or even go old school and bring back the stuff we miss.

All sonic needs is new moves, cartoons that work, maybe a new friend.
A new thing in the world like a ring but much different.
new game control and he will come back fast as ever.

I actually found secret rings annoying and awkward, found it's use of the wii's controls gimmicky and pointless, and hated the interface it saddled with. I miss the fun music that use to accompany sonic, rather than the the turgid angry metal tracks that seem to follow him round.

Yes, Sonic has been whored out, but only in an effort to keep it self from going under, thus evoking the rule of "digging yourself deeper" with each effort.

Secret Rings hasn't sent it down further, it's hardly turned it around, but it has increased his life-span. It's a good game. Not great or fantastic like Sonic 3 & Knuckles or 2, but it's good. Hopefully, their back-to-basics approach will realise that it's pretty decent and so long as the amount of characters in a new game consists of only Sonic, Tails or Knuckles, they'll be on the right-track there.

I'm worried for the 'hog though because one more bad game will almost be it. He's got the potential, but it's how they use it. If you ask me though, there's still 'a need for speed'.
