Harvard Statue Dressed Up as Master Chief

Some MIT students who were apparently really excited about Halo 3, decided to show their love for the game’s hero by dressing up their rival school’s statue of John Harvard as Master Chief. They basically painted a helmet and assault rifle bronze and placed them on the statue during the night. The result looks like Master Chief waiting to sign the Declaration of Independence, right before he fought in the American Revolution to drive the British out of the thirteen colonies. Some little known history for you there, folks.

(Update: Edited for incorrect content. Apparently I misread this one before as saying that Harvard did this to their own statue. Instead this was some MIT students’ way of pranking Harvard. Yeah, that just makes this so much lamer; and it was already kind of lame. I mean, what are you supposed to say? “Woot, we got you guys! We dressed up your founder as a video game character. We’re WAY nerdier than you.” It’s kind of like saying, “Hey, I can punch myself in the face harder than you!” And then doing it.)
Okay people, It’s a game…don’t you think this is a little too far? What I don’t understand is the hype. Sure, it’s not a bad game. Perfect? Not quite. I can think of many other games that I had more fun playing both online and offline.
Ok…. Halo is a great game, but I wouldn’t be decorating Amelia Bedelia (the author of the character lived in the town I am in) by putting in an AR and an MC helmet.

cool i guess, i see only a small bunch of gamers at Harvard getting a real kick out of it though.
Pulling pranks, or hacks as they call it, is just something MIT does. These hacks generally revolve around pop culture and either occur on the MIT campus or sometimes a rival campus. Seeing a Halo 3 one isn’t a big surprise and it’s not some pathetic attempt to be cool. It’s just something that they do.
I thought it was cool, sure I am not a hardcore gamer, but I don’t understand why you guys got to bash on ‘em for it, unless you are covering your butt…;-)
What is with all this Halo hype??!! Game media is more obsessed with Halo 3 than mainstream media is with Iraq lately. I mean, damn, Half-Life 2 was a FAR better first person shooter and got half this much hype, maybe.
This is the only cool thing to come from Halo 3, as it was not directly microsofts gay fingers.
