Rock Band Teaser ImageHarmonix has announced that they are now taking song suggestions for their upcoming music game, Rock Band. So, if you have some songs that you’d like to play with your friends, head over to the official site and use the ‘Suggest a Song’ option. No word on how long the option will be available, so get your suggestions in soon.

If I had to pick 5 songs for Rock Band (in no particular order), I’d have to pick…..

  • Limelight – Rush: One of the best guitar tunes from the early 80’s, and watching my friends trying to play Neil Peart’s drum lines would be a blast.
  • Crazy Train – Ozzy Osbourne: Zack Wylde. That’s all I’m saying.
  • Seek and Destroy – Metallica: Yes, I know that getting the rights to a Metallica song is like getting Halo for the PS3, but c’mon.
  • Nobody’s Real – Powerman 5000: Just because I like it.
  • All Along the Watchtower – Jimi Hendrix: No musical endeavor is complete without a little Jimi.

  1. The entire discography of Pink Floyd

You fool! You expect any Pink Floyd song to be played while also being fun? Especially considering the age group who will be playing (12-21). Trying to play any Pink Floyd solos are hard enough with guitar experience. I don’t even want to attempt to think of some 15 year old trying to play a Pink Floyd solo. Whether it be on a plastic guitar with 4 buttons instead of chords or not, Pink Floyd is too hard.

    Do not be a fool.

So Pink Floyd is hard to play and the people playing the video games may actually have to think or work hard……..boo friggin hoo

    Boo Hoo!

To put things in perspective, *I* can play Pink Floyd solos on my synthesizer (aftertouch FTW!). My rule of thumb is if you can duplicate it on synth, it’s probably an easy guitar solo. But who am I anyway?

I think I recall a semi-recent interview with Gilmore where he was reflecting upon his past. The most memorable part of that interview was how he (Gilmore) wished he was a better musician back then (specifically more technical). Humility or not, the context of the interview made it sound less like him being humble. I mean, he started out as a model afterall.

I don’t get why people get so passionate about the comparisons of guitar hero conquests akin to that of playing a real guitar. In my experience, the guitar hero controller is more like a keytar. And for the record, I suck at playing guitar.

So… you can put off your midlife crisis for a while. I don’t think the 12-21 year old “wannabes” are any threat to you. Well, unless you’re into defending famous keytar musicians.

Ryo Okumoto could play Floyd whilst slumbering. Seriously…

    Gilmour, rather.
