Harmonix Has No Plans to Turn Rock Band 1 Into DLC

rock band cover Harmonix Has No Plans to Turn Rock Band 1 Into DLCRock Band 2 came out not too long ago, with most of the upgrades and new stuff that you’d expect from a sequel. Probably the coolest feature of all though is the ability to import all the tracks from the first Rock Band, so you only need to use one disc to access all the songs at your disposal. That does have to make you wonder though if Harmonix and MTV have any plans to just go ahead and make all the songs from Rock Band 1 available as DLC. Sadly, the answer to that question is, “No.” Instead, the studios plan to simply keep publishing Rock Band 1, leaving it available to anyone who may have missed the boat the first time around.

People are already crying “foul” at this being the only option to play all those old songs, seeing as you basically have to buy a full game to get at a select number of songs. But let’s look at the alternative and say they did put up all the songs as DLC. For starters, how would you price such a thing? Almost every downloadable song for the game costs about $2 each, so you’d be looking at paying well over $100 if you wanted to get all the songs that way. I suppose they could make them available in a single pack or maybe lower the price to $1 each, but I can’t imagine the record labels would ever go for that idea. Besides, the licensing for such a venture would be a nightmare. In the meantime, it would be much easier to just pick up one of the thousands of used copies that people are unloading onto eBay and GameStop these days.
