Halo – Ghosts of Onyx

Dear Bungie,
What’s up? I just wanted to say thanks. Thanks for not making your Halo series of novels suck. I mean you easily could have phoned-in your title series, but I suppose you like us better than to do that. The latest of these is “Ghosts of Onyxâ€, the fourth book in the series.
Let’s face facts. The precedent for novel/game tie-ins is sketchy at best. Compile that with the staggering amount of terrible science-fiction literature out these days, and a Halo novel has little chance of being anything other than terrible. By all accounts it should have been nine levels of suck, but instead it amounts to 4 levels of awesome.
“Ghosts of Onyx†definitely continues the excellent work of the series, bringing intense battles and unique perspectives that really flesh out the Halo universe. This book paints a vivid picture of the Halo universe during the events of “Halo 2†and the upcoming events of “Halo 3â€. The coolest of these being the introduction of the Spartan-III program, and by the Halo 3 screenshots they definitely play a role in the upcoming game.

It reads sort of like Starship Troopers (the novel) meets Richard Marcinko’s: Rouge Warrior. It is also really easy to just pick up and read, without going back to the previous novels in the series. (Helpful for those lazy jerks who just want to get ready for Halo 3)
So once again, thanks Bungie. Be sure to give writer Eric Nylund a big hug for me, he’s a dreamboat.
