It should be no surprise that Guitar Hero III has captured the attention of many casual gamers, but according to a new study by online market research group BrandIntel, Halo 3 has generated an unexpected interest in casual gamers as well as a broader interest in the Xbox 360.

Between January 1, 2007 to October 4, 2007 Halo 3 generated much discussion about the Xbox 360, convinced many people unsure of whether the Xbox 360 was a worthwhile purchase to buy the game and like Guitar Hero III was very positively received.

Given the excellent marketing campaign launched well before the game came out, casual gamers and even people with no inclinations towards gaming could hardly avoid mention of Halo 3. It should be no surprise that the game garnered so much attention from casual gamers as well as the hard core fans. Perhaps if Nintendo had bothered to market for Metroid 3, it would have had similar results, but it seems that companies have underestimated the power advertising has on the consumer base, at least here in the U.S. even when the subject is a “hard core” niche game.

I'm not too surprised that Halo 3 is grabbing the attention of casual gamers. I think most of that is due to marketing and the other part is natural human curiosity. I know many hard-core Halo players who were sucked in simply because all of their friends were playing and that made them curious.

Yeah also, i recently bought the 360 ( although i swear the PS3 is still my favorite and priority  heh) but i bought it for the co-op. I feel like right now the 360 has some good co-op games which the missus and i can play, and since we look at more like a chance to just waste time (casual use not really interested in the story or 'finishing the fight') so i think there is that to.

I think as gaming becomes more and more mainstream, the terms like casual, and their exact definitions for market researchers is going to be harder to pin down.

the only people who get bored of halo fast are the ones who aren't that good in the first place. Overall halo3 and cod4 are two of the best multiplayer games of our time.
