Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (PC) Patch v1.1 Lovin’

GH3 header

Yep, it looks like PC owners of Guitar Hero III are getting some update love thanks to the guys over at Aspyr (who, by the way, did an impressive job porting GH3 to the PC). This update seems to offer a handful of bug fixes, graphical tweaks, and minor feature additions. You can read the release notes after the break.

A question that is still being asked among the various forum goers is will Aspyr/Activision be putting effort towards getting DLC to the PC? Also, what about stat linking (PC) to the guitarhero.com website? Or is a PC platform too “hackable” for this feature to gel?

It’s well understood that the PC voice is a minority here. However, I guess Aspyr can only do so much within the feature bubble Activision has given them. We’ve heard Activision’s promise of bringing DLC to the Wii in 2008. And we’ve also seen the backlash of Wii owners for their mono-riffic GH3 purchase. With all of these varied cross-platform versions of the same game, are we gamers pretty much rolling the dice when it comes to choosing a game for a particular platform before hearing a final verdict? Or should we be examining the fine print closely instead of simply expecting each cross-platform version to be equal in features? I can’t help but laugh at the thought of game companies calling us spoiled little brats behind our backs. Anyway…

How about adding something to fix the huge gaps, pauses, and jumps in every single song? I want my 90 bucks back.

    get a better pc?
    stfu bitch.
i have quad core 3 ghz per core and dual 8800 gtx. 4 gb ram 1333 mhz. :|
i have the same problem. the thing is that its not due to your pc being slow.
    its a real bug.
doesnt have anything to do with videocard drives or whatever.
    its a bug.
    they poorly programmed the game.
    its a really bad port.
    they should fix it.
open your eyes. slow computers is not the problem with this game.
it doesnt matter if you put everything out and on low. or if you put everything high and on.
    its a BUGGGGG R-Tard

  4. Gil says:

Yeah, the sound is scratchy on mine and the gaps occur frequently. I just upgraded the RAM and the Video card since opening a ticket with ASSpyr. The initial one was closed because the RAM was too low, now there is no excuse. It is easy to blame a PC instead of fixing the code, I develop for a living, and this IS a bug. Anyway, check out the crappy ticket resolution below. Maybe confirming the damn “general things to be aware of” FAQ prior to purchasing software is what they do, the rest of us assume that the program will be at the very least playable when we blow 90 bucks.

Oh and bu the way WTF are the 360 drivers mentioned in their reply?? Maybe I should check the FAQ to see if I need to plug my pc into my 360 to stop the gaps?

Thank you for contacting Aspyr Media.

Unfortunately your machine does not meet the minimum requirements for Guitar Hero III. The game requires a minimum of 2 GB of RAM for a Windows Vista machine. Your 1.5 GB of RAM may be contributing to your static problem. The rest of your system specs appear fine, but due to the RAM we will not be able to support your machine.

There are some general things to be aware of with the Guitar Hero 3 controller.

As listed in our Knowledge Base general thing to be aware of with the controller are:

    - Only have your keyboard, mouse and guitar plugged into your usb inputs.
    - Be sure that the guitar is plugged in before you launch the game.
    - Do not use the keyboard when the game is launched, just use the guitar to navigate the menus.
    - Do not unplug the guitar during game play.

-Do not load any 360 drivers to your machine prior to installing the game, this will confuse things. If you did do that, then uninstall the game. Unplug the guitar and then reinstall Guitar Hero 3

I hope this information is helpful.

    Have a nice day,

    indeed gil. you tell them.
your one of the people who isn’t a complete retard about this.
i knew this was a bug from the beginning since changing graphic settings didnt change a thing.
    thats odd.
    on my machine,
    with 800×600 res.
    crowd off
    graphics low
    and physics off.
    it made no difference.
either way the game runs perfectly with like above 120 fps or so :O absolutely flawless. and then suddenly like almost every 10 secs the shit starts to lag as hell :| i see the fretboard stopping and moving rapidly, like a flashlight thats goes on and off very fast.
and then ASSpyr (like your said it :D ) and all the other fucktards say. upgrade your pc :| wtf am i suppossed to upgrade :| should i put an agaiea fysx card in my computer :| is that it. come on. be reasonable here.
its a freaking code bug or something with hardware support gone wrong i dont know. but like you showed us asspyr smoothely talks over it. hell i almost start to think, seeing the faq part you showed, that they get payed by company’s that build RAM chips to screw their code and then say its something with your computer :| thats BS.
i sure hope they give us patch 1.2 ASAP!!!! cos this is just stealing from people. i payed 90 freagin Euro for it :| and what do i get. a crappy PORT of a game thats is done poorly, and they send you to a wall and tell you shit that aint true.
sick shit asspyr, they MUST build patch 1.2 in like 1 week or so, cos i guess else people ‘ll start suing them. at least. i would encourage that
    greets everyone,

  6. MaroonWarrior71 says:

Sooooooooo idk what exactly you people are complaining about, but there’s nothing wrong with GH3 pc. I’ve already beaten it once, and there were no graphics problems whatsoever, and i’m even on vista x64, which they CLAIM doesn’t work (but they’re probly just saying because i have to restart with the guitar plugged in for it to recognize it in-game…thus i suppose not FULLY supported). What exactly are you people complaining about? I’ve got quad core 2.67 ghz, 4 gb ram, geforce 8800ultra, and vista x64 and everything’s fine. Stop complaining maybe? It’s an AWESOME port, every review i see says it too, so maybe the minority (you) should take a peek at your machine and see what the difference is, because everyone else is having a great time with this game and saying how great it is and how good it looks.

    • MoronWarrior says:

MaroonWarrior71 look at all the comments and search google for guitar hero pc problem, and tell me its a good port… Porting good means high compatibility, wich this useless crap obviously does not have.
But it takes brains to see the big picture here, i wont hold it against you.

  7. MB-Aces says:

no mna you are one of the exclusive people with who the game does work. congratulatios. it is an very bad port. you are just lucky.
there is an major bug thats makes it unplayable for us.
i really love the game. thats not the problem. but i paid 90 dollar and they made the game wrongcoded somewhere wich makes it unplayable for me.
everything runs fine. and then suddenly when your doing like really good. the screen suddenly freezes for a split second. but it does that like 10 second long everytime. you get a split second normal play then the freeze and so on. thats cos there is a bug somewhere in the game :(
there is nothing wrong with the machine.
with some of us its just not working. im very glad for you it works fine with you.
cos you paid top price for the game.
and its more the majority of people with who it doesnt work.
and i agree it looks pretty good. the gameplay is extremely cool :P thats why i bought it. but im pissed i paid so much for a game they did not port good.
i really cant play the game now. it pisses me of when im like doing extremely good on expert level then the last 10 seconds of the song it does his freezing bug wich makes you not perfect the song :@ thats really annoying :(
i dont hate the game. i hate aspyr for making such a bad port. they really didnt look at the code good enough.
i sure hope they fix is as soon as possible cos i really like guitar hero :(
no offence to you but this is a problem a lot of people experience.
i wish you a lot of fun with the game cos it rocks big time. :P

Wining biOtches who cannot set up a pc properly should buy this game for a console….i have a dual core with a x1950 and a piece of shite old creative live card it plays and sounds excellent…. no glitches my thought is to update drivers check your drives are you runnuing raid? chipset drivers , i hope you can swim ….cause there are a number of causes maybe you should blame your manufacturer of you pc? dumbasses…..

  9. MaroonWarrior71 says:

hey hey hey, lets be nice about it huh? not everyone is as tech savvy as others, and not everyone builds their own machine (like me).
But he has, under the flame, a decent point…do you have the most recent drivers? Also, if you have an geforce8800 and vista you might need to update to their newest beta driver, as they’ve been having problems. I had that issue a while ago but its long since been fixed

  10. demon hellride says:

I have a core 2 duo e6400, 2GB Ram, and an nvidia 7600GT. The game runs fine for me on my 32″ LCD. I’ve seen every now and then lag glitches, but nothing major.

    This game owns. Period!

  11. Jerry Boy says:

I have a core 2 6600 quad with 2GB Ram and a Nvidia 8500. Brand new computer, no other programs installed, only mouse/keyboard/guitar plugged in and I am seeing the exact same lag problems as described above. I have to ignore the video sometimes and just play along with the song hoping I’m hitting the right notes, because the video stutters and lags and messes you up.

  12. MaroonWarrior71 says:

Well, for all you folks out there with the 8×00 series, you might want to check nvidia’s beta drivers, as lag is going to be a problem for everyone regardless of what high-end game your playing. I have this issue too with my 8800ultra, and its not just with GH3 (occasionally I see just a tad bit of lag…not enough to mess with anything but i know its there). That’s why I didn’t bother mentioning it before…its not a GH3 issue, its an nvidia issue. I see that slight lag in other programs as well. Update your drivers regularly (and frequently) and you should be fine.

  14. Gil says:

Well I finally got a honest response from Aspyr – I thanked them for that. If anyone has a place to host the file that was enclosed, I will be happy to share it. The issue in my case proved to be a weird conflict with the NVIDIA drivers. Strangely, I finally was able to eliminate this issue bu ROLLING BACK the latest drivers. So if you are having the messed up sound or the hanging video, try different driver combinations – yeah, it was a pain.

For those that are complaining about the bitching and moaning sorry to hear it, but it seems that this is a thread where people are looking for a solution to their issues not asking you to comment on their misfortune or how brilliant you feel when you call someone you don;t know a dumbass. Look over the response and you will note that there are issues with specific card/mobo/memory combinations – Like there will always be. Chill and have a brew.

    Cheers and happy new year.

    Hello,

You may wish to try the attached guitar drivers. Also the problem you are discribing is very unusual however we have come upon it before though customers only we can’t seem to replicate the problem in hous. There seems to be a USB conflict on a specific motherboard by Asus. It only happens on this one motherboard and has a rather interesting fix. The only way the few customers with this problem are able to get the static to go away is to add a PCI or PCI-E, USB card to the computer. As a rule we do not like to have to tell our customers that the only way to fix a problem is to add hardware to the computer unless the computer does not meet the requirements. Unfortunately at this point we have not yet been able to find another solution.

I have a AMD AM2 6000+ (3ghz Dual Core), Abit Mobo, 4GB Ram, Geforce 8800 Ultra running XP SP2. I’ve notice FPS drop bigtime since I’ve installed this game, I used to be able to push 74 fps in Warcraft, but I dropped down to 33. I noticed after I installed new nVidia drivers, I pushed back, no real change. I unplugged the Xplorer, FPS is back to normal.

I notice a lot of times that the guitar is not recognizing my button presses, or sometimes its as if I’m holding down the strum bar non stop. In Control Panel, things seem to be working fine..

I’m up to Rage Against The Machine guitarist on Hard difficulty. I went back to easy and songs like Rain In Blood for whatever reason aren’t registering strums in sync, all the time.

  18. Diz says:

another question, if you had 2 guitars could u play 2 people multiplayer on the same computer?? i see an option for the keyboard with the guitar, but could u hook up two guitars and play like that like on the console??

  19. Rieley says:

Bought it, got home, waited about 15 minutes for the damn thing to load onto my comp, try to play and NOPE, “GH3 Does not support your graphics card” WTF? Waste of money.

  20. Diz says:

  21. Jordan says:

i’m also running a computer i recently put some good money into, and this game still doesn’t play the way it should. i am happy there has been a patch for us, but this won’t fix the pauses & far-from-smooth flow of the game.

  22. jen says:

This game is so fun but it doesnt work right. it pauses every 3 seconds making it impossible to hit all of the notes…and i have a kickass computer with a kickass video card so im pretty sure its not the machine. maybe its something with the drivers? i wouldnt know what to fix in that case though. Anybody else with this problem that knows what to do? The patch helped a little bit but then 2 days later it was back to shitty performance again. helppp meeee pleaseee!!!

    Hi:

I have a fix for the problems involving the guitar controller on Guitar Hero III for the PC. If you are using the original guitar from the pc package, then run the xnacc.inf file from the file that I have ready for you. If you are using an xbox guitar then run the xusb21.inf file from the same zip file that I have ready for you. I am at rcamp45@rogers.com, if you are needing the file just email me , and I will email it to you. The file is 15 meg in size, so make sure that your email program will transfer the file.

    Thanks ……. Russ Campbell (rcamp45@rogers.com)

  27. fyrewyre says:

Its just the coding that is the problem, nothing else, i have three people in different system setups, it just lags from time to time. stop bitching, stfu, for those who actually bought this game dont even bother contacting the supplier, it is purchased “as is”, for those who got it by other means, again, please be silent as you just gonna make your self look like a fool for whining about a game that you got for free.

P.S If you are good enough you dont even need the screen to be in sync with what you are playing.

  28. Shawn says:

I have the same lag / temp freezing since installing the new patch, 1.1.

The old version never had that… ?

  29. Ryan says:

works good on my computer 800×600, hi res, no crowd, physics and lens flare on.
    pentium 4 – 3.06ghz, 1.5GB RAM, 256mb ATI card – not the greatest computer.
but they should update it. i can play crysis on my pc which is a much better looking game.

  30. MTi says:

Same thing here also with this lag problem. Earlier I had Sempron 3400+ processor installed on to my HTPC, and I thought it was too slow for this game, although there wasn’t so big difference between 1024×768 and 1280×720 resolutions. The game was fully playable (I have only Radeon 9800PRO 128Mb, but I think it should be fast enough for this game??) and the amount of memory shouldn’t be a problem either, there is 2GB installed. So, I bought X2 A64 5000+ processor and the lag grew so bad that it was almost impossible to play the whole game..!? But the main problem was on Windows XP, I had to install few X2 processor patches from MS and also drivers from AMD and now the game is “rolling” rather good. But still there are some occasionally stops and jams on the game, so I think there has to be something on the game code which are causing those annoying slowdowns.

  31. Jacob says:

don’t buy this for PC. my computer runs world of warcraft at 80 fps, team fortress 2 at 99 fps, counter strike, call of duty 4, every game u can think of runs no problem. then this game freezes up halfway through a song, so it’s just a waste of money

    2.42 ghz AMD 64 4000+
    2 g ram
    and a eGeForce 8800 GTS

we had some chip-fan problems, and it worked just fine. but, the chip fan finally left us (we have an ASUS motherboard) my dad bought a new one, we go to play the game. and the little (X) light flashed in a pattern. plugged the controller into my PC and it recognized the controller and popped up a little bubble. NEW HARDWARE! X-plorer Controller! plug back into dad’s rig. Unknown USB device. he reloaded XP (32Bit?)(64Bit Prosc.?) and it still dont friggin work. help?????

  34. Roxy says:

Like I can’t even beat the first songs on easy and I know i’m able to it says I don’t hit the right notes. It like skips and stuff and my computer is new so it shouldn’t do that. And the thing is if I go to practice i’m able to hit the notes so it sucks that I can’t finish a song in the career mode..

  35. Arkaniad says:

 well, now i got it workin on the rig in my room but freaking still, my dad’s rig is way better.

  39. CaTz says:

Sounds like some have hardware compatability issues perhaps, or systems that are off the shelf POS……
The game works very well indeed (as long as you don’t mind the graphics set to lowest settings) on my system which I designed and built myself.
It’s not even new haveing been built over a year ago now.
    System:
    AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2520 MHz
    L2 cache 512 KB
2 GB RAM, and no it’s not even DDR2 just plain onld DDR.
All planted on a ASUS A8N5X main board.
Vid: Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT 256 MB
Sound: Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum pro.

I have tried this game both in the 32 bit and 64 bit XP pro OS and found it to run much better 64 bit. I have not as yet acertained if this is because my 64 bit OS is less clutterd….. LOL

My only gripe would have to be that as yet there is no patch availible under the 64 bit OS…. At least not that I can find.

    Cheers, KiTTy….

  40. Travis says:

I just upgraded from a P4 (hyper thread) machine to a Core 2 Duo E6750 + a GeForce 8800GT. I STILL lag on songs. Even after this patch. Lowering resolution and graphics settings has no affect.

It’s not my hardware. I have no problems running all the latest games on max (Bioshock, Crysis {on high}, etc.). What give s with this game?

I’ll just stick to Frets on Fire. Smooth as silk.

  43. drool says:

It’s because it’s a ported game. Platforms like PS2-3, XboX360, Wii is working a lot better with games in common. That’s why you all got lagspikes and general lag. And btw Aspyr is working on it.

  44. Just...Ed says:

Good game, severly pissing me off.
for starts, i have no problems with skipping,
Intel Core duo Quad core. 2.4ghz
    Ge-Force 8800GTS
    4gig ram
    No problems EXCEPT!!!!!!!!!!!
My controller does not work. windows does not even recognize it. and of course, try as i might. the drivers apparently do not exist. abotu to be a real rock star and destroy the guitar. if anyone knows of and site that have drivers that work. PLEASE let me know. thanks.

  45. Computer Illiterate Person says:

I am a total idiot when it comes to downloading things for games. Can someone explain how I should install the patch so it works? I tried saving it into the Guitar Hero III folder in the Aspyr Program File but that did nothing noticable. Once I did that I could not find the saved folder.

  46. Sancho says:

can anyone help me..i try to install the patch but it says no game found… all the time..have anyone a solution for the problem….

  47. Jobo says:

Ok, first off, there are no bugs or anything that cause the guitar neck to stop and start randomly, 1 reason this may happen is background applications possibly slowing down your computer(doesn’t matter how much RAM you have, it will just steal more) such as antivirus’ or Chat programmes(like MSN, Steam etc.) I have a 4800 dual core processor with a RAEDON X1900 Graphics card and 1GB (yes, 1 gig) of RAM. it plays fine. im not bitching, or saying other people are wrong, just dont always accuse its the developers fault when they tell you its your fault. they may be right, but they could provide the wrong solution. hope this helps!

  48. Mike2 says:

Yer i had to spend 1000 euros on a new PC so i got dual core 2.66 and ati radeon 2600HD 2gb ram, i can run it on max resolution but i cannot have crowd i think you guys have a problem with your computer there is no bug (Nvidia+Vista=problems) if thats what it is.

  49. Brandon says:

I am running Vista 64 bit, with a 5000+ X2 2.6 GHz, 512MB x1950PRO, and 4 GB of DDR2 800 RAM. I play the game max settings at 1440×900. I have never seen it lag EVER. Always silky smooth. How the hell are you guys with quad core and 8800’s having performance problems>

  50. Jon says:

    DAMN PATCH!!!
When i didn’t have the patch installed yes it lagged like hell, but i never had it freeze during a song for like 3 – 4 seconds then go all the way to where it should be which i mean it goes to fast for you to hit notes and then it goes bk to normal tempo. What the hell ppl?
    i’m running:
Operating System: Windows XP Service Pack 2
    Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6200
    Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R)
    CPU: 2.40 GHz (2391 MHz)
    Memory: 256 MB
    Direct X version: 9.0c
    Rom and Ram are unknown

It dosen’t really lag when it’s on a close up on a person but when its like on the whole band it lags little much, but it stops for a little while then catches up to where it supose to be and i fail the song I’M SO FUCKING PISSED!
