Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Adds Eleven New Tracks

Activision announced 11 new songs for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock which includes some master tracks from rockers AFI, Iron Maiden, Queens of the Stone Age, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Slayer and the Strokes. It is always nice to have master tracks playing in the background while you try your damnedest to hit that blue button with your ill-flexing pinky finger. Nothing sounds worse when you are trying to impress your boyfriend with your faux-axe skills than some small-town cover band howling in the background – ruining your otherwise awesome rendition of ‘Mother’.
Granted, we knew about four of these tracks before the official announcement (Dragonforce, Iron Maiden, RHCP, ZZ Top), but we listed them again just in case you missed them. The new tracks include:
· Miss Murder – AFI
· Through Fire and Flames – Dragonforce
· Number of the Beast – Iron Maiden (awesome!)
· 3’s and 7’s – Queens of the Stone Age
· Suck My Kiss – Red Hot Chili Peppers
· Raining Blood – Slayer (more speed metal)
· Reptillia – The Strokes
· Paranoid – (mfb) Black Sabbath
· Cities on Flame – (mfb) Blue Oyster Cult
· Mississippi Queen – (mfb) Mountain
· La Grange – (mfb) ZZ Top

In fact, real rock stars like Jade Puget, guitarist for AFI, a band featured in the game is anticipating the upcoming release of the Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and wants fans to know that “if you’re going to start playing Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, make sure you have, say, the next 2 years free, because that’s all you’re going to want to do.” Well Jade, thanks for the tip! Rock stars are just so awesome – they really do look out for us.
In addition to the newly announced tracks, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock’s previously announced tracks include:
· Slash’s Original Boss Battle Recording
· Welcome to The Jungle – Guns N’ Roses
· Paint It Black – The Rolling Stones
· Cherub Rock – Smashing Pumpkins
· Sabotage – Beastie Boys
· The Metal – Tenacious D
· My Name is Jonas – Weezer
· Knights of Cydonia – Muse
· Even Flow – Pearl Jam (finally, a good Pearl Jam song)
· Lay Down – Priestess
· Cult of Personality – Living Colour (meh!)
· Rock and Roll All Nite – (mfb) Kiss
· School’s Out – (mfb) Alice Cooper
· Rock You Like a Hurricane – (mfb) Scorpions
· Slow Ride – (mfb) Foghat
· Barracuda – (mfb) Heart
Look for Legends of Rock to hit multiple consoles in the Fall.

That Dragonforce track will make Jordan on Expert seem like the easiest thing ever. It will be inhuman. They’re just putting it there so that the 10 people in the world who actually can play it can show off. Blah….
Kind of a waste of a slot. Put something in the realm of possibilty. Dream Theater’s “Panic Attack” or “Stream Of Consciousness” would have been better tracks (balance of slow parts and insane parts). At least those resemble a song.
Still hoping La Villa Strangiato somehow makes it in there. \m/
I must laugh at the inclusion of Dragonforce. As stated above, it’s so the few people in the world who can play the custom track can show off. If they have to put in something ridiculous, I’d rather they pull something from the Metalocalype full versions CD that’s coming up with the DVD release. (Do you folks like coffee?) Then it would be impossible but amusing, instead of throw-your-guitar frustrating.
Or possibly something less speed and more complex, like In Flames, though they’d never get the licensing for that in this decade. I think Moonshield or Bullet Ride would be more entertaining than TTFAF could ever be, and they’re within the realm of sanity.
(Please, Activision, do not make GH go the way of DDR/ITG, with songs so hard they scare off beginners. o.o;)
Otherwise, the new tracks look fairly solid. The inclusion of some Maiden makes my inner rocker headbang despite myself. I’m still holding out hope for some AC/DC or Zeppelin, though I’m not holding it out too far.
AC/DC and Zeppelin wont even let iTunes sell their music, so I doubt they will ever be included in the GH franchise – Rock Band – but not GH. Which is unfortunate, but AC/DC are tighter with MTV than anyone else. They owe their career to MTV, music stations in my State never played AC/DC until Bon Scott died and they can out with Shook Me All Night Long – which as we all can remember, was played every hour on the hour on MTV back in the day. Seraph, I too would love some Zeppelin, and as money hungry as Jimmy Page is you would think he would say Yes – I mean, if he would actually allow Kashmir to be sampled on a P. Diddy song for a crap movie like Godzilla, one would think he would sell his soul to Rock Band or GH – of course, Satan has had dibs on that soul for 40 years now…..
