Guitar Hero III Demo on Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground

If you are like me and can’t stand the wait for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, then this latest news might get your heart pumping (for better or worse). Activision just announced that a demo of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock will appear on Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground. Of course, the Activision press release only mentions the Xbox 360 version of Proving Ground. Now before you fuming PS3 fans pout as to why you are not getting any love, realize that even if you had the demo what would you play it on? Guitar Hero on a gamepad? Are you joking? Actually, I’ve seen this ghetto feat attempted. It is quite sad.
Yes, I know about the Pelican adapter. I just wanted an excuse to get my rant on. And before you get all Mr. Smarty-Pants as say “Well what about PS2?”. Ok, well I guess you have a small argument there. But seriously, who’s going to buy a Tony Hawk game just to play a GH3 demo? Don’t get me wrong, I’m the first to admit that Guitar Hero is my weakness. I bought a 360 just to play the game. I just can’t see myself buying Proving Ground (which looks to be a cool game, no doubt) for this demo. If Activision & Neversoft are sane, they would put this demo on Live for the masses. Using a wildly hyped Guitar Hero 3 demo to get your customers to buy a Tony Hawk game walks the fine line between marketing genius and insane cruelty. I can see myself renting this game out of spite.
Anywho, the demo itself features five tracks set in the Desert Rock Tour venue:
- Lay Down (by Priestess)
- Even Flow (by Pearl Jam)
- The Metal (by Tenacious D)
- Hit Me with your Best Shot (as made famous by Pat Benatar)
- Rock You like a Hurricane (as made famous by Scorpions)
We won’t even see Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground in stores until October 9th. Surely we GH junkies can wait a little bit longer for Guitar Hero III, right?
