Guild Wars Marks its Second Anniversary

Guild Wars Box ArtArenaNet’s no-monthly-fee MMO, Guild Wars, launched two years ago tomorrow. In celebration of this momentous occasion, players will be treated to a variety of in-game activities, including fireworks, games, prizes, and cupcakes. (Yummy, cupcakes) Additionally, all characters will be treated to a special birthday gift when they reach their two-year anniversary. There is even a Guild Wars Birthday Party planned in-game, which will take place this weekend, April 27-29.

If you count the two standalone titles, Factions and Nightfall, the Guild Wars series has sold over 3.5 million copies since its launch, which places it high in the sales lists for all MMO’s. Add to that the news that the first expansion for Guild Wars, Guild Wars: Eye of the North is scheduled to release in the third quarter of this year, and the fact that development has already begun on Guild Wars 2 (with a public beta planned in the second half of 2008), and you’ve got a title that isn’t going anywhere for a good long while.
