Guild Wars: Get the Most Out of Your Midline Character

Guild Wars‘ latest State of the Game article focuses on playing midline positions within a party. The piece starts out by defining the traditional roles of frontline, backline and midline characters. It goes on to point out that most parties put their new and/or inexperienced players into the midline role which could be a big mistake weakening the entire party.
There are tips and tricks for which types of builds make good midline characters, and how to effectively support both offense and defense. The best midline players can switch between these roles at a moments notice to maximize their party’s effectiveness when your healer is getting blasted or frontline is faltering.
Midline players need to be able to adapt dynamically in their multifaceted roles as the match progresses. Effective decision making in the midline thus depends upon clear and consistent team communication. Because less experienced midline players already have a tendency to focus on fewer roles, a team with such players may decide to design its midline to have limited and more straightforward roles to play. Unfortunately, this can limit the effectiveness of the entire team.
This is a great article for anyone who takes partying in Guild Wars seriously and the principles can be applied to other MMOs as well.
