GTA IV’s Roman is Looking for Work

By Jonathan on Wednesday, May 21st, 2008 at 8:55 PM PST In Game Companies, Gamer Life, Games, Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar, Videos

You may have heard how some of the voice actors from GTA IV don’t feel they were compensated well enough for their work, most prominently Michael Hollick, the voice of Niko. Well, the voice of Roman, Jason Zumwalt, feels the same way; but he’s not sitting around doing nothing about it. No, he’s using his new celebrity to rent himself out to fans for some extra cash. And, well, also to pay off some of his debts it seems. “Oh! That is painful in real life!”

What’s even more ironic is that Rockstar asked him to remove his video from Youtube, but not before it got to Gametrailers.com and now here. By the way, this is OLD news, way to be on the ball there GT…

    It’s hilarious, though.

Didn’t they get an offer on how much they would get before taking the job? Like any job out you get told how much you will make and then you accept or decline and work for them or not. Did this not happen? If your going to make a voice for a game, especially a game of this magnitude, you would know it is going to sell a lot of copies. Thus make sure you get paid the proper amount ahead of time and do your home work. Hell, all the other GTA’s did rather well what made this any different?

Dumb people that bitch just confuse the fuck out of me. But I might be wrong, I don’t know how the game industry exactly works >.>

I thought it was funny as well. Only one thing I didn’t get though…

They bleeped out fuck, but he can say GD with no remorse repetitively.

That’s screwed up. I’d rather hear him say fuck a million times in a row than hear GD. It’s just not cool.

Goddamn, you’re sensitive. This is the World Wide Web… if something bothers you, DON’T WATCH IT!

    • Tyler says:

Often words are bleeped for comedic effect. Sometimes things just sound funnier when they’re bleeped.

It is indeed a joke (or he claims it is), but I find it absolutely hilarious.

 this smiley face looks like he is about to ass rammed with a lightbulb. or maybe it’s just me because im really high right now.

  11. I stopped playing GTA a long time ago. Vice City did it for me. It felt just like the previous version, just a different setting. They are going to have to change it up a bit more in order for me to play it again.

  16. z-man says:

this must be a joke
rockstar shouldve hired actual immigrants to do the work, then thered be no bitching

  17. kims4word says:

If it isn’t a joke then I would guess that Roman got a fee but wasn’t on the ball enough, or maybe even wasn’t allowed, to negotiate royalties, or residuals as he calls them, per sale ad now feels a real idiot. It looks like he’s playing the so hard done by, overworked and underpaid innocent to try to get more money but in actual fact I really think he’s just totally blown all his future employment chances. Whether the repossession guy is real-as in-someone playing the part of something that did actually happen, or not, it is a really pathetic add-in and so not necessary. Who would hire someone who’s going to stab them in the back as soon as things don’t go his way???

  18. Robbery says:

Artists and programmers should get residuals long before any fucking jackass voice actor. There is a great need to start unions in the game industry.

  19. CinderBlock says:

The actor was on Big O and Dukes WJFK 106.7 washington DC it was a great interview they also had on Nico the main character. There podcasts are on itunes

  20. Ziggy says:

He should take this up with his agent, not Rockstar…

    His agent sucks.

    This.

Really, no matter what someone tells me, I think the programmers and artists deserve it more than anyone else. Why the fuck does our society praise the professional liars (actors) more than the ones who actually do shit.

  22. Niko Bellic says:

Is this real, does that phone number actually works..*contemplates calling it*

  23. B-Diddy says:

My wife does voice overs…there are what they call “Session fees” for video games as set by SAG. So you get paid per day of work, but there are no residuals for video games, unlike Union commercials, movies, and radio. It’s not his agent and it’s not Rockstar, it’s SAG he needs to be complaining to, especially since this year is when SAG is renegotiating.

I believe video games and Anime are the only two formats I believe where actors don’t get residuals (I don’t know if there are Union Web shows). However, EVERYBODY in the voice-over industry knows that. It’s actually a very small group of people, and much more competetive than on-screen.

  24. Lee says:

Jose are you a a god freak or what god dam

  25. At least he made the video funny. I think it would be interesting to be around him for a day. Reminds me of Dustin Diamond (A.K.A. Screech), who made a sex tape and sold t-shirts to help him raise money to pay off debts.

Though he could always embark on another job.

That came out in 2002. Its been almost 6 years, and its changed quite a bit since then, especially with everything GTA IV added.

  27. Dr3w says:

Jose go cry me more handfuls of your sweet, sweet, tears of sorrow.

  28. Shinobi says:

I think you are missing the fact that this is a comic piece. If there’s any notoriety to be made, it’s that he’s got more talent than just voice-work, and might see some screen-time rather than just a faceless credit at the end of the game.

  29. Parassassin says:

Has anyone called this number yet?
