gta iv1 GTA IV DLC Will Be How Big !?

Microsoft has been touting the fact that the Xbox 360 version of GTA IV will include exclusive downloadable content (which they paid handsomely for). But we still haven’t gotten any specific details on just what that content will consist of. Well it seems an upcoming CVG magazine special contains a passage that explains with just how big the new DLC is expected to be. To summarize: it’s not just big, it’s freakin’ huge! The passage explains:

“Of course, to call games as vastly ambitious as Vice City or San Andreas mere ‘expansion packs’ seems childish, but nevertheless, the downloadable content (DLC) coming for the Xbox 360 version of IV has repositioned those games in just this way. DLC so far has meant the odd new car, jumper of bit of horse armour, but GTA IV is set to completely redefine the idea with expansions that are to GTA IV what Vice City or San Andreas were GTA III. Yes, Rockstar is clearly hinting at new downloadable cities; and the chances of them being London, Vice City or SA again are slim to none. So that’s new as in brand new. GTA IV’s Liberty City is the beginning. Think about that and be excited.”

That’s right. They’re saying the DLC will include whole new cities that will be comparable to the entire scope of the past games. Of course, this could all just be some incredible exagerration — the magazine is put largely sponsored by Microsoft, after all — but I’m hoping this rumor turns out to be true.

  1. 360 SUCKS says:

lol who cares… its only 10 hours of extra gameplay thats shit for the price they are gna charge and wats the point in the new content wen u cant play it online each other? mircrosoft your a failiure like uve alwayz been. more people actually bought the PS3 version of gta IV than 360 ha!

  2. pojo says:

10 hours of extra gameplay is pretty good considering almost all ps3 games last four hours

  3. JD says:

How can more people have bought one consoles version of a game than another when the game isn’t even out yet?

You are an idiot, your post was about as useless as having a separate blue tooth in each ear.

  4. Norbit says:

    @ pojo

Name me one PS3 game that only lasts 4 hours.

  5. UGSAce says:

It would be cool my fav thing to do is just drive around.

  6. Yehrcahr says:

You fanboys are pathetic. Maybe you losers should get both systems like any real gamer too. But then again, judging by your immature, arrogant statements, you still live with mommy and daddy and they won’t buy you them both.

  7. I own a 360 & a PS3 says:

360 SUCKS: Fail! So far the majority of GTA IV pre-orders have been for the Xbox 360. Even after taking into account the PS3 was released a year after the 360 it’s been outsold (percentages you know).

  8. Raw says:

Well anyway, flamewar aside, i don’t think that the PS3 isn’t getting any DLC. I believe that maybe, if they release new cities, the biggest one, let’s say, San Andreas, will be Xbox 360 exclusive, while the others will be available for both systems. By the way, i have both the Box and PS3 so I ain’t taking any sides.

  9. Scrop says:

I think its obvious that anyone pro-PS3 posting a comment here is completely and utterly jealous… I mean, how couldn’t they? A next-gen San Andreas or Vice City? I’d be jealous too, but I already have a 360

  10. UltDestruction says:

@ Scrop – Your 100% correct on that one i think mate :D

This is great news(because i own a 360 :P ) and i think that by doing this its going to give us 360 gamers a lot more to do.

I mean, more cars? MORE CARS? Jesus, im loving this. :D

  11. RandyGandy says:

i would laugh if the exclusive downloadable content was stuff they couldn’t fit on the dvd9 and was in the ps3 version

  12. jds says:

    @scrop

    Yep, agreed.

I have both systems and my PS3 never gets turned on unless there is a system update I need to get.

Anyhow, the 360 version will outsell the PS3 version IMO due to the sheer number of gamer’s friends on Xbox Live compared to the pitiful PS3 ntwk. I mean, Live does it so much better!

  13. #1 Stunna says:

you have got to be kidding me, you guys still like the PS3. If you bought it for the blu-ray that cool, but the gaming, titles, are weak.

  14. Billy Bob Bo Jangles says:

Microsoft, unfortunately, turned me into an xbox 360 hater. I was one of those people who, for some reason or another, kept getting failing units. When the third one RROD’d, I decided the next one is going on ebay and I was abandoning the idea. I might consider giving it another go if Microsoft FINALLY fixed there screw ups. Well?… Did they?

  15. meh says:

im kinda dissappointed. if i want to play old maps ill just turn my old games on… for free. not paying for DLC

  16. Billy Bob Bo Jangles says:

Oh, hah, I forgot to say. My PS3 gets worked over pretty hard. Assassins Creed, Call of Duty 4, Resistance fall of man, Fear, Oblivion, Uncharted, WarHawk, etc. The only games I regret owning are motor storm and Heavenly sword.

  17. 360box#1 says:

dude the 360 is the best console ever, has what the ps2 always had over the original xbox GAMES!!! now all of the best games are coming out on the 360 first and the people that have ps3’s are getting mad because they are teh sux, i like GTA and would be awesome to be able to download new cities to run from the cops in :D

  18. LOL says:

jds… live also does it so much more expensive-er. PSN – free. Live $50/yr. PSN wins! ill go buy another game for that…

  19. ha says:

live is like buying a new game a year, and it destroys psn.

i have all three systems 360 gets used the most by far. the wii is a party system and the ps3 well it sits there waiting for gt5 and mgs4

  20. Brzrkr says:

I’m a PS3 owner and, being honest, of course this news sucks. BUT…I’ll wait on getting too upset over it until I see how much Micro$oft is gonna rape your wallet for those DLCs.

  21. MikeReiner says:

This somewhat saddens me. I don’t own either system yet, but I’m getting a PS3 first (Yeah MGS4 is drawing me in, I can’t resist it.)

But I’ll probably pawn the PS3 version of GTA IV once I get a 360 (that is, when MS gets their shit together regarding hardware failures)

So yeah, not a fanboy of either side, I want both!

  22. tony says:

Dude… firstly, to the flame war dorks. There is no war! Buy both systems.
Secondly, for the people that CANNOT read. This isn’t going to be a city you have played before. Thus the whole BRAND NEW statement in the article. Argh!!ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh morons!!

  23. crazyblackman says:

That defective overprice piece of crap 360 is gonna RROD at the friggin loading screen of GTA IV, regardless of the overpriced DLC. Also…the xbox live service is gonna crash just like it did at xmas time. I just put the “RROD curse” on your piece of shit, leaf blower sounding, 360.
    Happy gaming suckers!

  24. Kyle says:

I love how people bitch about 50$ a year for live. Are you serious, that comes out to 4 dollars a month. PSN is garbage. WOW! it’s free, WOW! is sucks. You get what you pay. I do understand where you are coming from though, you probably work at gamestop making your minimum wage. I spend 18 dollars a day just to park to go to work every day in downtown seattle. 4 dollars is nothing now a days. i understand how 4 dollars a month might be out of your price range. Maybe ask daddy for a larger allowance. Get real, PS3 fanboys……

  25. GTAOverView says:

Just a hunch but I think that DLC will most likely be same city, but new cars and a new character – with missions (probably characters you’ve seen in the game). It’ll show a different perspective of the city and missions as you play from the viewpoint of another character.

I could imagine an entire subsect of missions from characters, and since the models and most content is already there -it’s easy to do but adds a lot more to it.

  26. L33tMasta says:

crazyblackman is obviously one of the people not smart enough to know that this is HUGE. Don’t you understand? Downloadable cities. This isn’t the little download packs you get on PSN that add 1 new feature. I would gladly pay $20 for a good DLC like this if it adds 10% more to the game. Just because you can’t afford it doesn’t mean that those of us with jobs can’t.

  27. crazyblackman says:

    @ L33tMasta

Look dude…the average gamer has never even completed the previous versions of GTA. Soooo…Downloadable content is nice IF you ever finish the original version of the friggin game. I’m old school about games. Make the best game you can make and add the extra stuff that you couldn’t fit on that crappy 9 gig dvd to the next game. But don’t charge me extra for stuff that could have fit on a 50 gig bluray disc. You guys are plain suckers. Who cares about the DLC that a desperate MS paid 50 mill for? I’ll take the original disc and be just as happy. I guarantee that you will be shipping your 360 off for repair by the 10th mission anyway. I could have afforded a 360, but I work hard for my money and I’m too friggin smart, junior.

  28. EshLad says:

owning both systems im gunna go for 360 version for sure, better online service by a mile, 50 buks a year, that is nothing at all, people who own systems and buy games regulary should be able to afford the price of online… ohh and the point of the post, i rekon the dlc will come in the form of another island, that could be the size of a city, im not sure.

  29. crazyblackman says:

“people who own systems and buy games regulary should be able to afford the price of online”

No offense, but if you own both systems…you simply have too much disposable income. you need to get a damn life, a girlfriend, a hobby, a pony or something to keep your fat, lazy, pimpled ass off your broken down futon. and pick up after yourself…you disgust me.

  30. The Man says:

I honestly recommend the closing of comments on anything that could be a flamewar…this is just stupid.

  31. Tyler says:

I have a Wii, 360 and a ps3. I play them for different reasons. My online play is done on the 360 of course, and my ‘game experimenting’ happens on the ps3 and when certain ppl are over I get the Wii out. Again, experimenting on the ps3 really just means getting my money’s worth for it. Plus, it looks nice sitting underneath my 50″ plasma. My wii-360 get to sit next to my 52″ upstairs :)

  32. GabeP says:

I love how these things turn into either a console war or a pissing contest.

“Plus, it looks nice sitting underneath my 50″ plasma. My wii-360 get to sit next to my 52″ upstairs”

Really dude? Do you think you’re getting respect for claiming about your multiple big screens and consoles? On topic, it’s lame that us PS3 owners wont have the chance to pay a lot of cash to get a little more stuff but we also have a much more reliable system that’s truly next-gen. IF your Box doesn’t crap out on you in 4 years you’ll have spent $200 for the Live service. Yeah, totally worth it, when you could’ve thought about how things will be in the long run.

And to you guys bragging about having more then one system, I’m glad your parents can afford to buy it for you. I went with just the PS3 because I didn’t want to deal with an inferior machine that I’d have to get fixed all the time. Some kids can’t have more then one system because they aren’t spoiled bitches. If you have more then the one then why not take the time to post informative comments instead of wasting everyone’s time?

  33. Gigarayzor says:

Haha, console gamers and their silly fanboy flamewars.

  34. Tom says:

“I’m glad your parents can afford to buy it for you.”

i work 3 days a week for 12 hours total at my campus’ fast food restaurant and i can afford both… this is stupid though… the ps3 one is gonna look very sightly better/different (i think the lighting that developers use on the 360 makes the differences moot), and the 360 one is gonna have more stuff. the 360 wins this round if you dont care about the tiny differences… so get over it…

  35. OgKaveman says:

If the Pic above is an in game screen shot it’s the first i have seen an d it is incredibly detailed – Can’t wait!
P.C. for a mouse and keyboard every timme
See you in line at Gamestop on release day.

  36. Dave says:

quite a funny read this argument about whats better but the fact and the matter is the 360 is the daddy so what about the RROD they did sort it out with new chipsets and cooling and they went out there way to lose money buy giving out extended warrenty

live is nothing you can pick it up on ebay for like less than half price and the community is excelent while your psn well is there anything good about it

DLC = ps3 no matter what you say were getting new maps, cars etc and your not!

there now you dont need to argue

  37. ManOfTeal says:

Looks like I picked the right next gen system with the 360. Yet again, the only thing the PS3 is good for is being a glorified Blu-Ray player.

And Nobit if you could ever say anything intelligent I think I would pass out from shock.

    Go Marlins!!!!

  38. ManOfTeal says:

Norbit I mean not nobit…..no coffee yet this morning.

While I can see where you’re coming from, we tend to try to leave comments open on every post for our readers to utilize. Sometimes, some editing of comments is necessary.

However, this type of post seems to be the most often abused. For whatever psychological reason, people seem wedded to their console of choice. Regardless of which one they own, they can’t be content to simply praise their console. They have to denigrate all the others available.

Abusive comments will be deleted at our earliest opportunity. Comments laced with profanity will be similarly edited or deleted. Play nice!

Personally, I own both the 360 and the PS3. Both are excellent pieces of hardware. Luckily, I haven’t suffered any hardware problems with the 360 yet. I will say that I put more time in on the PS3 than the 360, but that’s mostly because I prefer the shape of that controller to the one on the 360. That leads to me buying most multiplatform titles on the PS3.

  40. DanceOfDeath says:

    @360box#1
Best games coming out for 360? Name me 5 exclusive games that are amazing. (If you say halo, you auto-fail). I own a 360, but the PS3 is outselling it, It reached 10 million units sold months faster than 360 did. As far as best games are on 360, I consider Final Fantasy to be one of the best franchises ever…and is 13 coming out for 360? I think not. What about Metal Gear? Also a negative. Don’t be a fanboy =)…bad news.

  41. inty2525 says:

    @ crazyblack man…

u spend all your time trolling these sites… get a damn job and stop trying to act tough, you come out like a hungry pregnant woman on a hormonal rampage… LOL… since you have so much hate…. here’s something for you… (*7*) figure it out…

    crazyblack = failure

  42. GTA Compo says:

GTA IV London would be absolutely fantastic – especially if it was set in the swinging sixties like the GTA2 version. Shame the chance is “slim to none”!

Anyway, it’s pretty clear that this is what MS spent their $50 million on :)

  43. bleee says:

Couldn’t you just ban all these fanboy losers?

  44. Rick Donaldson says:

BIG FREAKIN DEAL. THE ARTICLE FAILS TO MENTION THAT GTA IV FOR THE X-BOX360 WILL ONLY BE HALF THE SIZE COMPARED TO THE PS3….SO U WILL HAVE TO PAY MORE MONEY TO DOWNLOAD WHAT THE PS3 ALREADY HAS.

MONEY MARKET SCAM OPEN UR EYES. DO US ALL A FAVOR AND PLEASE GRADUMIKATE FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SOMETIME THIS CENTURY.
    KTHXBAU

  45. Ron Whitaker says:

Rick, there’s been no mention of any difference between the two versions of the game. At least, not any mention that would be deemed even somewhat reliable.

Oh, and your caps lock key is stuck. You should have a tech professional check that for you.

  46. IntelligentGamer says:

Alright, I own all three systems, and I am not trying to impose my greater wealth against anyone or brag about the fact that I can choose what system to play and when to play it.

From my experience, the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live is far better than my current PS3 experiences. The PS3 version of Call of Duty 4 is weaker in graphical performance (Using my 720p HDTV to judge) and the online is just plain rediculous. You pay $50 for Xbox Live in order to have a reliable and enjoyable experience. If little kids happen to get annoying, the Xbox 360 headset (which comes with a mic, while the PS3 requires you to use inferior sound quality, or otherwise seperately purchased PC devices) has this handy little mute function! Problem solved!

Another bonus to Xbox Live is content is released weeks ahead of the PS3 version. The PS3 has its well share of annoying gamers on it as well but I could not mute them for weeks until the patch was finally released.

To be honest with you all, I did originally purchase my PS3 to play Blu-ray disks since the HDDVD format failed. I’m not overly sad about that, either, because I only spend $150 on my HDDVD player from Amazon and they refunded me $50 once the format failed! Amazon is great, by the way.

Now, the PS3 has potential. It’s processor is nothing short of amazing! But it’s lack in a cost effective development kit and the lack of consoles sold in the US market cause many developers to choose the Xbox 360; hence more games and better games for the 360.

The RROD issue is something of the past. It involved poor heat dissipation designs and bad heat pipe placements. However, Microsoft has covered ALL Xbox 360’s with a 3 year warranty, for free! You can’t beat that. My Xbox 360 is nearing the 1.5 year old mark and still has had no issues whatsoever. Many failures, while maybe not a majority of them, were caused by gamers that were ignorant of the fact that a console which produces heat can not be placed inside a cabinet, which in effect causes a microwave effect. Luckily for the PS3, it is large enough to enforce being set outside of most TV stands and entertainment sets.

That is my educated and experienced response to the masses. Oh and before anyone jumps on my parents, I live with my girlfriend in my own apartment, making $14 an hour at a job that I myself have obtained with my own very hard work and education.

    Thanks.

  47. You know what? I’ll pay my $50 bucks a year for the far superior Xbox Live.
I actually sold my PS3 after about 2 months because I just wasn’t impressed.
The controller feels so cheap, and while lots of games looked very nice, it just didn’t measure up to my 360.
But hey, to each his own.

  48. ln N 0ut says:

Theres gonna be 20 hours of DLC. All you PS3 Fanboys don’t cry about it.

I know its sad that you don’t have that many games and GTA was your only hope but itll all be over soon. Bad enough First Person Shooters Dominate on the 360. PS3 shouldn’t even have FPS they play like shit.

  49. ln N 0ut says:

Also don’t forget the new UK 60 second trailer, Microsoft Promoted that!

Playstation is doing nothing about Advertising. Theres already polls stating 360 has already sold more GTA IVS then PS3. So yes Fanboys you will have MGS4 but we will have Gears of War 2. A game thats gonna dominate PS3 whole 08 lineup.

  50. Mr Greensleeves says:

PS3= great for graphics on some games (the processor is just too damn hard to code for apparently), and i must admit six axis kicks ass when i was playing heavenly sword, but the online gaming is so so poor i was waiting on average 15mins sometimes for just a simple deathmatch to start as there were not enough players but hey you cant complain about something you get for free LOL.

360= good graphics but you wont get as much content as PS3 has blu-ray cds (50gig), xbox live is really good gaming environment the whole thing just works and its so simple to use as its a paid service so they can spend money on upgrading servers and new firmware unlike the latter PS3. Also there are just so many good games coming on the 360
    Saints row – 360 only
    Gears of war 1-2 – 360 only
    Dead rising – 360 only
    Fable 2 – 360 only
    Too Human – 360 only
    Ninja gaiden – 360 only

I would say the only good games on the ps3 are little big world and thats when it comes out, UT3 and Heavenly sword oh and the PS3 eye games set for the future look awesome but 360 spanks PS3’s ass when it comes to great games.
And PS3 spanks 360’s ass for sheer game content and graphics and that when developers actually bother to code it right.
