GT5 Prologue Demo Free Download Oct 24th
Posted by Steve on Saturday, October 13th, 2007 at 7:48 pm under Game Companies, Game Consoles, Games, Gran Turismo, Sony, Sony

It seems the removal of the free Gran Turismo HD Concept from the Playstation Store recently is not without merit. According to GT Channel, Sony has just revealed that a Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Demo will be released to the public as a “free” downloadable demo on October 24th.
Of course, Japan will get dibs on GT5 Prologue shortly after its unveiling on October 24th. Europe is still scheduled for a December 13th release date while the U.S. release is still out in the cold. GT5 Prologue is, of course, a PS3 exclusive title.
Now, what I’m interested in is actually seeing if these superb graphics actually live up to the hype. We’ve seen videos and screenshots of this game (from Sony, no less) that are just mind-blowing. If a single PS3 is truly rendering this stuff in real-time, I will be seriously impressed. The precursor GT HD Concept was pretty lame by my standards. Let me be blunt, Forza 2 made it look and feel pathetic. I really want to see the GT5 Prologue Demo with my own eyes. If the graphics live up to the hype, it may very well change my opinion (and others) on PS3 capabilities. Car handling in GT5 Prologue? Let’s get past the graphical doubt first.
You can find all sorts of screenshot of GT5 Prologue here.

"Now, what I’m interested in is actually seeing if these superb graphics actually live up to the hype."
Of course they do. They never exaggerate or tamper with GT graphics.

BTW GT HD Concept was a free giveaway beta released around 2 years before the full game will be. Its a bit dumb to even think of comparing it to a full $60 game let alone doing so. Forza 2 is a piss in the ocean compared to the GT5 that will be released at the end of 2008.

Are you guys blind?? Ask anyone the Car rendered in GT HD looks way more realistic than Forza 2. Forza 2 looks good but you can never mistake any of the cars for a real car. Go look at video from gametrailer.com of GT HD in action those cars look real.

Rendering a single car on a single track can't help but look good. I want to see what the PS3 can do when it's many cars. GT HD was a bit lacking in a couple of respects. The wheel animations were non existent and the carefully controlled camera angles concealed very jagged shadows.
I really hope GT5 does better, it's the reason I bought a PS3.

Having seen and played GT HD Concept, I would dare not say it looks better than Forza 2. Before having even seen GT HD Concept in person, I saw nothing but screenshots and videos on the web that made it look far more impressive than it actually was. This is one of the reasons I hold scrutiny for GT5 until I see it in person. Any company with sane marketing is going to try and make a game look better than it actually is. That's just the industry status quo, like it or not.
Forza 2 has alot more things going for it than just pretty cars. Things you can't judge by comparing screens. While not mindblowing, I find the overall graphics with Forza 2 well balanced. It's a polished game in that respect.
Dumb is buying a console based on technology demos.

Steve, Polyphony digital never, ever do that with GT. The graphics of the game will be the best ever seen in a racing game. Instead of looking at screens from a beta demo released 2 years before the full game check out the video of GT5 Prologue released at the TGS which is made using the real game engine and is 100% representative of actual gameplay graphics. The replays BTW will run at 30fps and native 1080p while the actual gameplay is 60fps and native 1080p (I believe Forza 2 is 720p and up-scaled to 1080p, not native which is true of almost all the games Microsoft sell as 1080p).

If you look at car driving games, whetehr arcade or sim. the latest ones, Gt, PGR3/4 Forza 2 etc have a replay mode. And when using the replay mode the graphics level is bumped up and this is what you tend to see in these screenshyots. so the cars look superb. But in actual gameplay they are not as good.
Both Sony's racing games (GT series) and Xbox PGR 3/4 and forza 2 do this.
So look past the screenies and vids and wait till you play the actual game yourself before judging it on graphics.
During replay there is no AI calcualtions, no player input etc to deal with jsut the rendering of the graphics.

falviousuk you dont have a clue what you are talking about. Those are the same as the in race graphics.
October 14th, 2007 at 5:47 am
In fact falviousuk you have it the wrong way around with GT5 because the race is at 60fps while the replay is only 30fps because of the extra processing needed to make extra camera angles and visual effects available. Both the replay and race use exactly the same graphics engine. The replays look a lot nicer for the simple reason that you can see it all better.

I can't see why there would be a drop in FPS if the resources are managing roughly the same amount of material. Not exctly the same, (no Ai in replays etc, but no different camera angles in game) but it is a bit odd to me. I don't care, 30 or 60fps means squat to me, but as we've seen, there are those nit-pickers out there. I'm sure GT5 will be a graphical wonder…just hope it plays better than 4, for those who intend to get it.

"obviously norbit = sony fanboy. spouting the virtues of a game (demo) hes not actually played but only seen in screenshots and videos"
Whereas you are happy to ignorantly ignore the facts that are available about it in order to criticise it
You are lying and making stuff up about it you fool. The replay is not graphically enhanced.
October 14th, 2007 at 10:43 am
Why is it fanboys feel the need to get defensive about something they have no stake in, like the success of failure of the PS3. I have played Forza and GTHD demo and they have different strengths. Forza 2 has superb Physics and features that I doubt GTHD will be able to match. GTHD and possibly GT5 looks great handles like a toy, it belongs in a category with Project Gotham. Hard to handle does not equal realism guys.
I still have high hopes for GT5 but If it doesn't work out at least my PS3 is a very good upscaling DVD player.

Ho hum. Checkout games such as Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted . Also Killzone, Gran Turismo 5 have just given you a tiny taster of what to expect in 08.

Oh please, Forza 2 only has great looking car models, the tracks are nothing compared to even gran turismo 4. Also, what's with the idiot that said forza is the one with the superior physics? They still haven't figured out cars actually have differing weights in that series, while the GT series has been at or above 90% realism since GT3. *rolls eyes* Just because they have damage models, doesn't make the overall physics themselves more realistic, it just looks more realistic. The damage model doesn't generally effect aerodynamics the way they should, anyways. That's something for Forza 3. I'm not even going to argue if the cars look better in GTHD or Forza because that's quite the polarizing point. Neither game looks bad, at least.
"The replays look a lot nicer for the simple reason that you can see it all better."
…in every GT game that has had replays, the replays look better because it doesn't have to worry about AI or physics or anything. Why would this be any different? You clearly have it reversed (so I dont know why you even bothered to correct the other guy.) Sony has even officially stated that replays/before the race will look and run better than in-game, for obvious reasons. They even mentioned that pre-race would be completely ray-traced.

If you ever get the chance to drive a car on the edge, on a track with a mid-engine configuration in damp conditions, I hope you will revise the "Hard to handle does not equal realism guys" statement!
Even car magazines and TV shows have gone to the extent to test GT versus real life so they must be impressed enough by its engine. It would have looked stupid doing that with 'outrun' or 'PGR4' after just a quick drive in the game would it not?
October 20th, 2007 at 7:53 pm
lol, im in europe, have a europe machine (bought at europe release) and i'm currently playing the prologue demo.
no joke, it can be do, wtf is this track?!?
they put a fucking oval in prologue? (video only) doesn't look like motegi, or the test track…
it's fucking indionapolis!!
well, gotta go.
(oh, and the graphics really do live up to the hype)
October 20th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
wait, not indy, it's daytona, my bad.
October 21st, 2007 at 3:14 am
Its already available on Japan PSN. So stop the silly banter and go look for yourself!! There are 16 cars in the game btw, and the gfx does look exactly like the marketing. The marketing is obviously screenshots. Im running it on 1080p and its silky smooth an utterly beautiful - Forza fans, forget it - Forza low res scaled looks nowhere near this.
