If you aren’t familiar with that sequence of button presses, you can’t consider yourself a hardcore gamer. Sorry, but it was in the contract. Read the fine print next time.
The Konami Code has appeared in a ridiculous number of games — just check out the Wikipedia article and be amazed. Everything from Half-Life 2 to My Sims has had its own version of the code implemented somewhere in the game, whether it’s to give you health, complete your objectives, or even unlock an achievement.
One of the latest places the Konami Code has reared its head is in Google Reader, Google’s online RSS reader. Enter the code when you’re at the Home page and the navigation area where all of your feeds are listed will change color and a ninja will pop up out of nowhere. Aside from that it doesn’t seem to have any impact, and it disappears as soon as you reload the page, but it’s still fun to see something so small end up in such an absurd number of places.
