Good News: Spore Not Being Delayed Till 2009

The internet was abuzz yesterday over reports that Will Wright’s highly-anticipated Spore had been delayed until 2009; reports that turned out to have been misinterpreted. Apparently, a rep for EA issued a statement that the game was being moved “from fiscal ’08 to early fiscal ’09.” Almost instantly, gamers and other news sites began to express their outrage online, assuming the game had been pushed back a full year (this site even posted on the “delay” and then took it down when the error was realized). The problem it seems was in EA’s wording. What many didn’t realize was that EA’s “fiscal ‘09″ runs from April 2008 through March 2009. That means the game could see the light of day in spring of next year, which had already been reported weeks ago. So basically, this was old news that had been read wrong and reported as “new” news. Go, go, internet rumor mill.
