Too lazy to go pick up a gift for your friend? Don’t feel like putting forth the effort to humiliate him or her? Then why not just send your friend a game on Wii – it’s an easy Wiimote waggle away.

This new feature was unveiled by Satoru Iwata, and will allow you to send games to your friends. Details were few and far between (there’s no indication if it works with only Virtual Console games, WiiWare games, etc.), but it should be fairly simple and straightforward to use. According to the AP story, you can select a game to send as a gift, and when the recipient accepts, the game will automatically download.

“We think this will be a breakthrough in encouraging customers to spread news of fun games word of mouth,” Iwata said. “We also hope to spur more users to connect their Wiis to the Internet,” he said.

Seems like a nice touch, and hopefully this will support WiiWare.

As Iwata said, this could be a great way to introduce Wii users to enabling their Wiis to connect to the internet. I’m sure the typical Wii owner has no idea it can connect to the internet. Keep in mind, when I mean the typical Wii owner, I mean the new onslaught of casual gamers who are adopting the Wii.
