adobe director 11The Games Developers Conference has hardly even gotten started - yet the news just keeps pouring out. Adobe Director 11 upgraded multimedia made its public debut at GDC 2008, and is expected to hit shelves in March. Director 11 is designed - amongst other things - to create three-dimensional graphics for video games, virtual worlds, and even interactive store kiosks.

“It really is about digital literacy,” said Adobe senior product manager Rick Jones. “In the growing world of user-generated content, more and more people trying to take control of their video. We are giving those creators the same kind of tool Adobe Photoshop gave picture takers. In the gaming world, if you create a race car that careens off a wall it will look like the real world. [Director 11] is an opportunity for people to take their games to the next level.”

Director 11 is a revamped version of Adobe Director which lets programmers write code in any language and customize video creations by simply “dragging and dropping” icons onto the workspace. The Ageia PhysX software engine incorporated into Director 11 will provide creators a way to view three-dimensional playback and promises to let characters or vehicles in games move more realistically. Game makers will also be able to combine Director 11 with Adobe Flash software to craft their very own online games.

“Publishing is really a matter of one button click and away you go,” said Allen Partridge of Adobe Director. “From greeting cards or wedding albums to corporate presentations or folks that want to make interactive media or go all the way deep into it and create video games.”

In the future, Adobe also wishes to form alliances with the makers of serious games, you know, ones that are designed to “improve health, train or educate”. Wow, sounds like fun times are ahead.

Whatever your reasons for wanting to purchase Director 11 when it hits retail in March, be prepared to spend $999 for it - unless of course it is for educational purposes, which in that case you can get that version for a hundred dollars less.

how about I wait until it's cracked and then still not hold any interest in the product what so ever?

Anyway, I have a few points here.

    1. Adobe's software is always successfully pirated

    2. There's always great alternatives to adobes software that are usually offered for free. See the Gimp for example.

    3. So why should we care about Adobe's releases?

  • weclockGimped says:

As weclock cannot write any programming language.
As weclock does not realize what difference Gimp and Photoshop have.
As weclock is completely unfamiliar with any Director.
As weclock does not understand why free software is free.

    - lets all forget weclock
