Out of sync issues are common among the PS2 slim. Even the Wii is having problems with some of the more harsh songs in GH3, like Raining Blood. It's kinda of funny when you think about it, but the game pushes the hardware pretty hard. It's very timing sensitive. I occasionally get slight jitters (framerate drop) on the 360 with GH3. It's not deal breaking, but it is rather annoying.

Unless you are jumping platforms, the older guitar hero controllers will work fine with the newer games. Vice versa, the GH3 controller will work with the older games as well.

Too bad someone who doesn't have Guitar Hero 2 won't be able to play it... unless they actually go out a buy a guitar just for the demo. O_o

I too am having serious problems with the audio gradually going out of sync. I was really, really hoping that someone would have a suggestion for how to fix it. I'm playing it on my HD television, and I'd heard reports of HD throwing some lag time into the game, but that's not what this is. The game responds in time with my playing. But the music seems to be as much as a half-second off from the notes on screen. Most of the time I can compensate for that, but after awhile it wears me down, particularly on songs with long note streaks.

Any suggestions would be great.

Has anyone noticed problems in the practice mode for GH3/PS2?
For me, the audio gradually goes out of sync. About half way through a song its totally unusable. I have also run into audio sync issues in regular game play after pausing/resuming a song.

GH3 seems pretty buggy. I cant believe they didnt catch this in testing.

Sup all.

GH3 totally rules. I think in some respects, its easier than GH2, because I beat every single song on Expert the first time through without failing except for Slayer's raining blood. I failed that once, but the rest I was able to either 4 or 5 star the first time around, including One. Maybe its because my learning curve happened during GH2, because I at first failed Freebird and hangar 18 a few times and have never passed Jordan (was able to get 98% on Six though :P - I've always been a speed picker, so Six was definitely easier than Jordan by far for me). But its probably because as so many of you have said, the margin of error on the hammer-ons is ridiculous. You don't even have to think about the timing, you can basically just hit the buttons before they are off the screen and they will connect...definitely more fun, but definitely less challenging. I can definitely see why they did it, from a marketing perspective anyways. I think the relative difficulty of the songs is greater for GH3 though - that prototype song is crazy, and i haven't unlocked it yet because I'm a bitch and I wanna do everything on expert straight up, but the dragon force song looks insane as well...can't wait :P

But uh...I haven't beaten Lou on Expert yet. Probably because my buddy got pissed when he lost a song and killed the power in the middle of a save which, as I'm sure some of you know with ps2, is a death sentence for your save file. I'm gonna try to do it without ever practicing which would be pretty sweet. I'm also gonna try to do it without seeing any of the super hardcore gamers do it on youtube :P

But yeah. this game kicks some serious ass to the point of distracting me at work and making me want to leave early...and I sit at a computer all day!!

@Brandon

It was a demo that handpicked some of the easier songs. Nonetheless, I stand by my statement still.

When I said the game is easier, I was implying OVERALL, not some handpicked songs. Dragonforce was obviously handpicked to be placed in the game because of all the GH forum's fan wishlisting for something evil in difficulty. You don't even get the song unless you beat career, so it's a bonus as far as I'm concerned. If you want another hand picked one, try the Prototype bonus song. It's a beast as well.

The mere fact I advanced through 30 consecutive songs of expert on GH3 without failing a SINGLE song, to me, implies that this game is easier than GH2. The hammer-on window being large has EVERYTHING to do with making the game easier. The arrangements being the only counter to that.

And the hammer-on arrangement in GH3, if you haven't figured it out, is layed out like the real guitar counterpart. This is more intuitive to those who actually familiar with the real guitar arrangement. Just because you liked the predictable one-after-the-other hammer arrangement in GH2 says to me that you don't sight read well and either work off memorization or intuition. Learn to watch the screen.

The intro to Through the Fire and Flames is a synthesizer harpsichord (which they make you play for some dumb reason) then followed by the mad picking part. Go watch Herman Li and his counterpart play this song. You'll notice they don't use hammers, just picking and sweeps there. There are plenty of hammer-ons in the song later. It's not like its completely devoid of them. I'd have a more valid argument that the acoustic intro to My Name is Jonas SHOULD be strummed.

And I got through My Curse on expert on the second try. Ask Ron, he was there. To put things into perspective, I can't for the life of me BEAT Freebird on expert still (damn you Solo J). Nevermind five starring most of those last set songs in GH2. I don't practice the game to death like most. I don't have time.

GH3, on average, is easier than GH2. The fact they packaged a large number easy songs with a handful of extremely hard song does not make the challenge well balanced. With that said, I find GH2 the better game still. GH3 wins points on a few technicalities, but at the end of the day ends up being trumped by the song selection of GH2.

And I got through My Curse on expert on the second try. Ask Ron, he was there. To put things into perspective, I can’t for the life of me BEAT Freebird on expert still (damn you Solo J). Nevermind five starring most of those last set songs in GH2. I don’t practice the game to death like most. I don’t have time.

I'd disagree Brandon. The game overall is easier this time around. There are a few spots (Killswitch is a great example) where the pure pounding you have to give the strum bar begins to hurt, but on 95% of the songs, you can pull off hammers you couldn't on GH2.

That said, the track list is still pretty disappointing all in all. There are a few great songs, and lots of songs that are just blah.

This whole review is stupid. Guitar Hero III was released yesterday, so I'm hoping you realized what you said wrong. The hammering may be easier in the game, but there's a slight problem: no hammering. The familiar times you would expect to hammer are gone and now you're forced to stroke for almost every one of the notes. Great Example? Through the Fire and Flames. It's THE hardest song in the game, and yet you can't hammer-on at all in the intro. Same goes with My Curse by Killswitch Engage. No hammers through almost the whole song. I five-starred all of the songs on the expert career in GH2 and now i can't get through a song without my wrist in horrible pain. If you're calling this easier, then you are sadly mistaken.

Rock Band is so much better than GH3. C'mon. They're the same basic layout, except you have drums and a mic as well. I don't understand how you could say GH3 is better.
