You aren't ignored weclock.. I'm reading.

I can't answer any of your questions officially but I'm reading them. We use Vent to record, which is why we had some odd audio problems this week. There were 5 of us all in different places, all with different mic setups.. its a miracle it worked as well as it did.

I'll ask Ron the guest perspective question when we chat next just to make sure I can get you an answer.

I've had luck getting SS2 running on my Media Center 2k5 machine. there are patches you have to apply once you get the game installed. Maybe I can find the info for you.

@Norbit:

Sorry for the delay, but I wanted to touch on something you mentioned here.

"Thats the important point that Phill seems to miss with his crack analogy. If a load of 7 year olds loved WOW I would agree with him but from my experiance it attracts a lot of experianced gamers so there must be somthing good going on there. I think its shit to put it mildly but seeing as so many experianced gamers dont, I'm willing to accept that its a good game but just not to my tastes. like Halo for instance."

It actually IS a good game, but that's not really what keeps me playing. By definition, MMO's are about people more than gameplay. I enjoy the gameplay of WoW, but the people and friends I have made over the years of playing are what keeps me hanging out, raiding, and progressing. I enjoy playing games with these people. That's what multiplayer games are all about.

GFW magazine does a great job in scoring pc games, the whole heartedly believe 5 is an average game not 8 like some other places would lead you to believe.

Why didn't you address any of my points, Phil?

Also, I believe your definition of high review scores is fundamentally flawed. It's a general consensus that a 10/100%/etc. does not indicate perfection, and nothing can ever be perfect. It simply cannot be more highly recommended.

It sounds almost like you have something against The Orange Box, not just us. (We're just a side effect, since we like it.) Angry PS3 fan, maybe?

hey, everybody, it's phil again! the man with nothing better to do than troll around for something to write a long negative essay on and then attack everyone with a different opinion than his with schoolyard name-calling, since apparently this is the only place he can find an audience -- especially seeing as he wrote not one, not two, but four lengthy comments in the span of less than 48 hours. thank you, internet. without you, people without friends wouldn't have anything to do on the weekends.

1. I'd still like to hear what games you play Phil, because they sound really cool, and I'd like to try them.
2. Technically the first game to have these portals, was a 3d party mod for Half-life, entitled 'Narbacular Drop' like I had previously mentioned.
3. Can I get a link to Dr. Brain's Action Reaction?

Ron, will you ever invite internet guests to appear on your podcasts? maybe you can patch them in through some voip program or ventrilo...

"Did you actually listen to the podcast?"

As I wrote above, unfortunately yes I did listen to it, all 23 excrutiatingly boring minutes of it.

"I clearly stated several times that I didn't think TF2 was the greatest thing ever. In fact I said it *might* make my top 10 of online multiplayer shooters. I also described Episode 2 as "more of the same old thing."

That's not the gist of what I took away from your podcrap, but I'm not about to waste my time listening to it again so I can pick out specific quotes and pick them apart.

"I am also curious as to what games you're currently playing, Phil. Perhaps you could enlighten us as to a new, awesome title that we can review here that will meet your standards?"

Why the hell would I want you to review games I have already played? If I've already shelled out the money on a game, I sure as hell don't need you to "bless" it for me. I already know what to think of the game at that point.

"The only revolutionary thing in the Orange Box was Portal."

I wouldn't call it revolutionary as it is certainly not the first puzzle-oriented FPS game (Dr. Brain's Action Reaction on the Unreal engine preceded it by seven years), and it's also not the first FPS game to use portals (Prey preceded it). So, Portal is more evolutionary than revolutionary, and even at that it's still a short two-hour ride on a one-trick pony.

"Not every game can be groundbreaking, epic, and revolutionary."

And, yet almost every game review site is scoring The Orange Box gamettes as the paragon of gaming perfection. Given the kind of raving that is being done about it, I would expect that the titles are groundbreaking, epic, and revolutionary. They're not. They are simply two tired rehashes bundled with a short one-trick pony for the price of a real game.

I can't get system shock 2 to work on my windows xp machine!!!

also, who here has played Narbacular Drop? I believe it is on filefront even . It's a very fun game, and I think I might record a couple demos of it and put it up on youtube.

It's the game the team who made portal made, that made valve hire them.

made, made, made, made, maid.

I hate to do this, but I have to.

Phil, you said, "Well those "ton" of other games must also have been tedious and repetitive if Team Fortress 2 and the rest of the gamettes in the Orange Box stand out as exceptional in your mind." Did you actually listen to the podcast?

I clearly stated several times that I didn't think TF2 was the greatest thing ever. In fact I said it *might* make my top 10 of online multiplayer shooters. I also described Episode 2 as "more of the same old thing."

The only revolutionary thing in the Orange Box was Portal. The rest was fun gaming. Not revolutionary gaming, but fun. Not every game can be groundbreaking, epic, and revolutionary. Honestly, for my $60, The Orange Box is a worthwhile purchase. I'll eke enough enjoyment out of playing TF2 with my friends to justify that expenditure.

I am also curious as to what games you’re currently playing, Phil. Perhaps you could enlighten us as to a new, awesome title that we can review here that will meet your standards?

The only revolutionary thing in the Orange Box was Portal. The rest was fun gaming. Not revolutionary gaming, but fun. Not every game can be groundbreaking, epic, and revolutionary. Honestly, for my $60, The Orange Box is a worthwhile purchase. I’ll eke enough enjoyment out of playing TF2 with my friends to justify that expenditure.

Ecks Vs Sever was so fun on gba lol
dark forces was the doom clone right? if so that was fun too.
System Shock 2 was better than the first one

the first 6 or so months after getting a PC i spent playing every old game i could find a way to run on my machine. there are a lot of old games that are freaking awesome and nobody seems to know or care about em today, until they get some remake or "spiritual successor".

@xx-Thor-xx - I have played more than one PC deer hunting games, sadly.

@Daniel - Yes, actually. I heard it was a funny game and not a whole lot unlike Duke Nukem, so I played it once the patch was released so you could play it on Windows XP.

For hell's sake, I've played Ecks vs. Sever on GBA. :|
