GameStop To Sell Wii Rain Checks

The Wii shortage debacle has been getting on all of our nerves lately. Nintendo has teamed up with GameStop to launch a new rain check program. Unlike pre-orders or normal rain checks, these will be sold for $249.99 on December 20 and 21, 2007. There will be thousands and thousands of rain checks available, but I highly doubt they will last long. One of these rain checks will entitle you to a Nintendo Wii console on or before January 29.
This seems to be somewhat of a strange setup, but it’s better than anything we’ve seen before. I have always felt as if they should have set up a pre-order system for the Wii. The fact that they have your $250 for possibly an entire month before you get one is disturbing, but still better than nothing.
Nintendo representatives claim that they are also working with Best Buy and Wal-Mart to urge them to push more consoles onto their shelves prior to Christmas. These developments are in no way over-the-top exciting, but at least Nintendo is taking some steps to get Wiis into the hands of gamers who have been waiting a long time to get one. Currently, 1.8 million Nintendo Wii consoles are produced monthly.

I work at gamestop.. and have not heard of this yet.. gonna ask my Manager tomarrow at work ^_^
