I’ve had a similar progression in gaming journalism as Andrew has and had an opportunity to interview him a year or so ago for GameOn!. Like Andrew I was always astonished by what I saw in the mainstream press and media about games – so much so I began writing game oriented technology pieces for The Columbus Dispatch to offset the hype and work to inform the paper’s readers that while the games often contained questionable content for youngsters that they needed to be informed consumers and not be fooled by kids who were swayed by the hype (or breast physics).

I even began a crusade in Columbus Parent, a local parenting magazine, to cover family friendly titles with an eye toward education and fun for teens and younger audiences. Andrew’s website and the community that formed around it is an important resource for gamers to promote. We need to help the uninformed come to understand that video games are not the cause of societies downfall.. and children can be protected from objectionable content if the parents do their job of parenting.

I recommend checking out the profile on Andrew, not only is it a good read, its also a good example that many of us could follow to help outsiders understand this industry and to realize that governmental regulation is unneeded when people do the research before making a purchase.
