GamePolitics Digs Up Dirt on Xbox 360 Red Ring of DEATH!

GamePolitics has been personally motivated to dig up the dirt on the Microsoft Xbox 360 “red lights of death”. Like David who reported his loss earlier this week, they have been inspired to right an expose on the whole sordid mess while their Xbox is on its way to Texas for repairs. It seems that the number of machines afflicted must be higher than the 3-5 percent reported by Microsoft. According to repair specialists, its harder to repair than advertised and may be a design problem.
The article is very well researched and while I personally own an Xbox 360 and haven’t yet experienced this phenomenon (knock on wood), the whole business has really brought up some doubts about the way Microsoft is doing business. Check it out.
Yesterday i was watching a DVD and all of a sudden the screen went black and i got the RRoD. It was flashing on and off though. So anyway i turned it of for a minute and it worked for 2 minutes. I seen that the power cord wasn’t in properly, so I plugged it in properly in it worked for the rest of the night. Do you think it will happen again?

hey pat, yer tha it wat was happenin to me it was flashin like crazy then i turned it off then back on and it worked then a few days l8ter i got it again which was last week so i would think that it would possibly do it again soz to say tat but microsoft is gay. i get my xbox bac next friday so if u have live add me YoUnG PaDaWn and i get 3yrs extended warrenty aswell YAY
dude i was playing mlb 2k6 and it froze so i turned it off and then back on and that red ring was there.

My xBox 360 Broke after 18 months, It began freezing at first and now it’s just the three rings of death. I’ve always had my console standing straight up, never seemed to be the problem.
I Call Microsoft, they said it could be a power issue.
The external power unit acts as a surge protector, and if it is plugged into another surge protector, it could restrict voltage.
To prolong to life of your xBox 360 plug the unit directly into the wall.
yeer that sucks but i have good news I GOT MY XBOX BAC FIXED FREE OF CHARGE AND I GOT NEW DVD DRIVE FANS AND EVERYTHING AND I MONTH LIVE SUBSCIPTION LOL BUT YEER AND 3 YRS EXTRA WARRETNY so it is good in the end sorta
i was playing halo 3 put on some music and about a month ago iheard some screaming so i thought it was my cat i came back in my room and the the stupied red ring of death came on i called microsoft they sent me a box with stuff in it to set it up i sended it off they couldent fix it so they said they will send me a new 1 by wen thur or friday i dont think they send u a new 1 can some tell me that if they cant fix it they send u a new 1 is that true answer please
my xbox 360 had just got the virus. i am so mad. it was working fine this morning. then i took it down stairs and plugged it in. then it came up. i almost cryed. this sucks. microsoft better fix it or im going to scream

All that warranty crap statement of Microsoft does not apply to people living outside the United States.
That’s right. I live in the Philippines. I called Microsoft and they just referred me to the reseller who would not replace my crapbox 360.
Now i have a very expensive white plastic doorstop.
And it pisses me off to no end since PS3 is not an alternative for me! so until

I HEARD THE IDEA IS TO OVERHEAT THE XBOX WHEN THIS BULSHIT HAPPENS WITH TOWLS FOR 15MINS ANDTHEN LET IT COOL DOWN ON ITS OWN FOR 15MINS ON ITS OWN AND APPARENTLY IT WORKS (I SAW IT ON YOUTUBE,THE RING OF DEATH WAS CURED BY DOING THIS).

I bought the XBOX 360 for my son who is a straight A student and I felt he deserved it. Lot more money than I wanted to spend but what the hec. Had it for around 8 months and OH NO, dreaded rings of death. Sent it in, listened to my son complain for about a month and finally got it back right at a month later-same unit serial # matched. Everything was going fine until…OH NO, dreaded rings of death again!!! Now to a 11 year old this is the end of the world, especially at Christmas when 90% of his Christmas list was XBOX games. Called up support and they are sending us a box AGAIN and this time I demanded to talk to someone so I could vent. Spoke to a Matt, id# 6708 who asked me a question right away…is your unit plugged into a surge protector? I immediatley said yes, because it is and he informed me that that is the problem. Well, needless to say I got a little upset because as usual, somebody is blaming someone else for their problem. I asked why hadn’t anyone told me this before and why isn’t that on any of the sites I have looked at for suggestions on what to do and he informed me that it is in the manual. I proceeded to tell him “you mean to tell me that all of these millions of blogs of people like me complaining about this piece of crap product have all caused it themselves by using a surge protector” and he said yes, that most of them probably were. Well, I owe it to the world to let them in on this secret- that it is your fault, you the consumer who spent your hard earned money, you who wasted hours talking to XBOX support and weren’t told this secret, you, you are the problem!!! When I get this next unit back I vow to not plug it into a surge protector, I vow to leave it in a well ventilated area and I vow to read the owners manual as I was so smartly reminded by the XBOX support man, Matt id# 6708. This isn’t XBOX’s fault, this isn’t an inferior product, this isn’t a huge waste of money since they don’t send you a new unit, they just “fix” the one you have…which by the way, breaks again 3 months later…This is my fault and I accept responsibility…now its your turn!

who me… weill it happend to me on novemeber the 1st i was bout to sell my xbox 360 then i turned it on snd it had the red ring of detah im like OMFG then i sent it away 4 days l8ters and i got it back 12 days l8ter it it was all free postage exxept the box i got to put the xbox in but yeer.. then i sent it to ther factory and they fixed, they put new fans,and Also gave me a disk Tray cause my old one was stuffing up so that was a bonus and i got 1 month xbox live so yeer it is easy to send away if u live in australia lol
Son received it for Christmas last year, got 3 rings of death in August, sent it off, received it back in Sept and died again w/ 3 rings today. I was told that surge protectors were causing the 3 rings of death in most cases…is everyone who has had this happen using a surge protector???

i have not had any problems with the red ring of death, (knock on wood). but did get a disk ruined. i have to say the customer service was terrible, they blamed every other reason than the Xbox itself. I ruined a Rainbow six vegas disk. The customer care client blamed manufacturing in the disk. What a load of bull. he clamed the disk was warped and because of the high speed of the drive spinning ruined my disk. Lies!!!!
i can feel for the problems sherry has, the customer service was terrible in my oppinion. No support, no justification only excuses on causes other than the disk drive. honestly i have enjoyed my Xbox and if i had the ammount of problems others have had, Ya id throw in the towel, and PS3 would by my no other choice.

yeah, while i was downloading a Halo 3 orientated video, my machine crashed, i turned it off waiting 10mins then turned it on again and i got the red lights all 3 flashing, so i turned it off left it for 2hours came back turned it on, i worked so i turned it back off…went to play it that night…RED LIGHTS OF BLOODY DEATH im not impressed and its close to xmas and im getting H3 for xmas and..yeah im buggered…
and also ive had mine for just about 2years now

I got the ring of death about 4 weeks ago and i found out how to fix it for at least two weeks you hit the little white botton by the memory unit and then press the eject botton and hold for a secound then do it till the red light you had early then it should work!
I got the death ring again when i was signing into my xbox.i am 34 years old , not a young kid and i am very desipointed.i use to play playstation then i decided to get an xbox 360 , i guess i made a big mistake i should have stuck with the playstation.i dont mind spending money on games for me or my two kids but i expect that the product that i buy to be reliable. next time i am going to buy a game i will get it for my playstation.
