It’s less than one year until the Presidential elections. In just a few more months we’ll be plagued with never ending smear campaigns on why not to elect the other guy. Comedy Central’s Steve Colbert is kicking things off early in his bid for Presidency and Gamecock is getting in on the joke… I mean endorsing Colbert’s campaign.

Colbert was recently turned down as a candidate for the South Carolina Democratic primary. Gamecock is encouraging Colbert to try his luck in the Lone Star State. The game publisher, becoming ever more widely known for its wild publicity stunts, has offered to back Colbert and even lend him its Austin based office as his launch point.

Gamecock CEO Mike Wilson explained the reason for the endorsement in a statement:

“After conducting extensive polling and scrutinizing all the candidates’ stances on various issues, we came to the conclusion that Stephen Colbert has shown strong leadership and best represents the interests of the videogame playing community … Stephen Colbert had Will Wright on his show and he pummeled Nancy Pelosi’s Mii in ‘Wii Boxing.’ These decisive actions have earned our vote.”

Gamecock along with developer Wideload Games is currently promoting the March 2008 release of the Hail To The Chimp party game for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Extremely appropriate don’t you think?
