Game Counterfeiting Ring Broken Up in the UK

The leaders of a games, music, and film counterfeiting ring have been locked up in the UK. Eight defendants appeared in court after they amassed tens of thousands of pounds by selling counterfeit games, CD’s, and DVD’s. The ring supplied local markets, and even sold their wares from the trunks of cars.

Some of the the defendants were also accused of benefit fraud, and other charges. All eight were imprisoned for terms ranging from nine to fifteen months in prison. Apparently, the illicit business generated over 40,000 pounds in proceeds. At the sentencing, Judge Morrow QC, said, “I want to send a deterrence message to any people who may think counterfeiting is an easy way to make a lot of money.”
