FOX Breaks into MMOs with Ice Age Online

Gravity has acquired the rights to develop an MMO based on Ice Age and Ice Age 2 from 20th Century FOX Licensing & Merchandising. All Ice Age Online avatars will be animals from the animated movie series.

It is our aim to produce a great online game that will meet the expectations of all game users and “Ice Age” fans throughout the world. In addition, Gravity has been pursuing detailed discussions with FOX to publish additional online game titles in the future.”

Ice Age Online is scheduled to be released into the wild the third quarter of 2009.

I think it’s great that FOX has plans to get into the MMO business. However, I wonder about this first project. I would have to assume that IAO will be aimed at a young audience, which leaves out quite a bit of the average MMO crowd. Now if they had announced a Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel MMO, I might be a little more convinced that they could do something lucrative with it.
