First Eight Minutes of Sony’s PS3 Exclusive ‘Afrika’ Really Packs a Punch

For some reason the video for Sony’s long awaited pet project Afrika will not stream for me, so instead you will have to hit the link for GamerCyde where it was originally posted. It is totally worth it I promise you, and the picture of the Rhino above is the only hint I am giving you.
I am so wanting this game even more than before!
The PS3 exclusive Afrika is about as elusive as Big Foot and details regarding the game have popped up now and then, but nothing really specific has been given – other that it is very pretty and is set in Africa.
But here is what we DO know about it:
- You will be a photo journalist taking pictures on foot, by car or by air balloon
- You can unlock real non-CG pictures and rare research footage of the animals as you encounter more animals in game and build up your “Animal Library”
- The game will be out on 8/28 for 5980 yen in Japan
Afrika is expected to hit North America shores on December 31.

At first I thought it was a VERY good looking hunting game. Hell, why don’t they keep all the animals and add Tribal Village 1 vs Tribal Village 2. If the ps3 is so powerful, why not do that? The game looks excellent, the animals look smart, throw in some guns and lets have some fun.
Because there are some sad, possibly deranged individuals who form the bulk of so-called ’special interest groups’ for the welfare of animals who would shake their collective noggins in disapproval and demand that it be pulled from shelves.
PETA sucks.
Pokemon Snap for the next generation … YAY!
Whats wrong with having a game of some sort that does not have a gun ?
Maybe its because sane people dont find killing animals enjoyable?
Booooooring.
I really don’t understand how anyone could be the least bit excited about this game.
I mean…really? What’s next “Paint Drying Contest Wii Edition”
No Matt, they already made that game. Its called Assassin Creed! Oooh! I went there!
I’m going to bet Assassin’s Creed was more fun than this. For one; If that picture is ingame, i’m VERY disappointed with graphics. If the PS3 really is that powerful, they could have used something… More realistic?
wtf
its like endless ocean for wii
so this is one of the blockbuser exclusive for ps3?
Serio
Are you seriously saying that screenshot looks bad?
Can you name me a game that has a better looking animal than that?
No.
The simple fact is that its a PS3 exclusive so you automatically have to attack it even if it makes you look like an idiot.
I didn’t say anything about that. What’s the difference between Animals and normal models? I’m just saying with the PS3’s power, they should be able to produce something alittle more… ground breaking than that. It just looks too clean.
I’m just glad Sony is keeping the real good exclusives, like Afrika. I mean…who needs Final Fantasy exclusivity when you have Afrika.
To Matt: Sarcasim?
Haha. Yes. Very much so.
It doesn’t seem like the most rivoting of game concepts… I could just buy a cheap camera and run around photographing squirrels outside for less than buying this, get fresh air, exercise and probably have more fun in the process too…
@ pariah:
yea but then you don’t get to have cool contests like, “who can take the best picture of a rhinoceros’ ass” or “who can get a picture with the most lions attacking a gazelle”
