Finnish Gunman Shown to be an Avid Fan of Video Game (Movie, TV, Music, Book, and Gun) Violence

Duck and cover gamers. Pekka-Eric Auvinen, the 18-year-old gunman who documented his plan on YouTube before he killed eight people and himself at Jokela High School in Tuusula, Finland yesterday, has been revealed as fan of Counter-strike, the Hitman series and Battlefield 2. In fact he may have played his last game of BF2 as NaturalSelector89 just before leaving to massacre his classmates, school nurse and headmistress.
Although some people will dig no further into the gunman’s psyche and blame it all on video games, an excerpt from Auvinen’s YouTube profile reads:
…Don’t blame the movies I see, the music I hear, the games I play or the books I read. No, they had nothing to do with this. This is my war: one man war against humanity, governments and weak-minded masses of the world! No mercy for the scum of the earth!
His profile listed, under the name Sturmgeist89, also lists Auvinen’s many interests including:

This is such a tragedy. It’s human nature to rail against fate and need something tangible to blame. Unfortunately many will look to cultural and media influences to explain these deaths instead of focusing on this troubled anti-social senior who acted out to solve his problems, real or imagined, with a gun.

Quite pointant stuff, in his profile. 1942, Existentialism…I don’t mean to be blunt or rude in terms of referring to America, but I sincerely belive the Finnish authorities will look at the case as it is, not if he played computer games, which seems to be a particular trait for American authorities to pick up on.
Joelteon7 I agree with ya and I am an American, the media here has a grotesque habit for bloating anything and everything out of proportion and taking things, such as playing violent video games, out of context.
I can’t wait to see what “he who must not be named” does to take this out of context and use it against gamers.
As Lucas says I don;t think its a police or investigative issue but a media one.
I think police procedure is basically the same across the board the issue comes with the media portrayal of these events and the need for American society to latch on and look for a blame indicator.

Right . . . well, if there’s any silver lining to this, at least Jack Thompson and the Media-That-Be aren’t promoting burning Ray Bradbury books. That’d just be plain dumb irony – though I wouldn’t put it above them.

Good job dude, more food for Jack Thompson. It’s a given that the media is going to target all the things he listen, and that’s exactly what this a’hole wanted. Just like Columbine, they focues on the games and music they played and not even concidered the fact they were brought up on a military base.
