This week the File-N-Forget podcast returns with Ron Whitaker and Shawn Sines discussing the wonderful new 4X/RTS hybrid Sins of a Solar Empire from Ironclad Games and publisher Stardock. We bypass the “Guess the Game” segment this week but as usual Shawn has a Rave and Ron continues to Rant.

Oh and if you’re looking for the official 1Up review of Sins you can check it out here for another opinion on the game.

zune market place available?
There was only one strategy game I could ever play for hours at a time and ironically, the most fun I got out of it was cheating. The Total War series is what I really think as the pinnacle of strategy games, mixing a superb blend of raw tactics in combat mode and thorough progression of aims on the map. The problem was, it got a bit dull and allowing unlimited money or a variety of some of the other cheats simply made it more fun. That might sound ridiculous, but it really does work.
Other strategy games I just fail at. I don’t take Command and Conquer 3 online much anymore. I keep losing at it.
The idea of saving a multiplayer game though is absolutely fantastic. I’d like to see that implemented in future games. As for picking Sins up personally, I’m afraid my PC can’t run it. It’s a shame, because at the least I’d have like to have tried it out.
@Joelton: You’re PC does not meet these specs?
* Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista
* 1.8 GHz Single-Core Processor
* 512 MB RAM (1 GB for Windows Vista)
* 128 MB DirectX 9 3D Video Card (Radeon 9600 / GeForce FX 6600 and above)
* DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card
* DVD-ROM Drive
* 3 GB Hard Drive Space
* Keyboard and Mouse
* DirectX 9.0c
Wow.
Oh, apparently it does then! I thought the ram was double what it was. Must’ve read the vista only requirements. I’ll definitely look this game up then, ta for the info.!
This looks like an interesting game, but I was in the mood for a “Freelancer” style game instead of a “Homeworld” style game.
@Joelteon: You may have been looking at the Vista requirements.. Vists is a real RAM eater anyway.
@S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Good luck finding one. Freespace 2 and its various free mods like the Wing Commander Sequel and the Babylon 5 game are as close as it seems to get these days. My Flight Controller is gathering dust and it used to be the most used piece of accessory hardware I had next to the mouse and keyboard.
I know. You can only play Freelancer so much, even with mods.
Infinity: Quest for Earth is looking awesome, but its a LONG way off and will be an MMO
