The licenses for many of the properties FASA Studios worked on – such as MechWarrior, Crimson Skies, and Shadowrun (keep in mind there were people that love[d] the series before the recent FPS) – have been licensed back to the Jordan Weisman, the founder of FASA.

When the studio was closed earlier this year, it was a mystery as to what Microsoft planned to do with the licenses. Weisman, who is now CEO of a new studio, Smith & Tinker, says that “our goal is to surprise and delight old fans, while welcoming new fans to these fantastic worlds.” This announcement was made on the official Smith & Tinker website, which also said they weren’t ready to make any announcements.

The list of properties includes the three aforementioned games, as well as “other properties of the FASA catalog.” Make of that what you will.

Regardless of what those other properties are, it’s nice to know that some of the great series like Crimson Skies and Shadowrun won’t die off just because FASA was closed down.

YES! A new Battletech game, hopefully another in the vein of MechWarrior 4, only next-gen. Crimson Skies was always fun, and they need a Shadowrun cRPG.

  2. Rollett says:

Hopefuly not a nother in the vein of Mechwarrior 4 (where it started going Arcade) and more in terms of 1-2-3…..

  3. Shawn Sines says:

I agree with all of these statements – as someone who has played every one of the FASA based games dating back to the old BattleTech: Crescent Hawk’s Revenge. I’d love to see more from the BTech universe and a fitting Shadowrun game along the lines of DeusEX.

Well, maybe MechWarrior 4 with a handful of greater realism. Maybe Crescent Hawk’s Inception in 3d, with infantry, battlemech, you name it combat in a large scale environment. Also, I’d like to see a Shadowrun game with RPG elements. Maybe even a MMO (preferably free-to-play or like Guild Wars).

  5. Kareem says:

Yes, new Mech Warrior and a new Crimson Skies please. I’m aware of the one for xbox, but I want it on the PC where it should be.

  6. Shawn Sines says:

Crimson Skies actually came out for PC before the Xbox version. I liked it a lot as well, it was more like a simulation than the Road to Revenge was.

  7. Jimruninit says:

I’m a Mech Warrior die hard. I was very disappointed when the series was discontinued. Mech warrior 3 (pc version) was my favorite. Mech warrior 4 was a little different ok though. My first multiplayer experience. Baby come!
