Facts About the New PS3 SKU

Rumors can drive you insane sometimes. It has certainly been the case with evidence of the new PS3 SKU as of late. The rumor wheel has been spinning out of control and shows no signs of stopping; at least until Sony comes forward and grinds it to a halt. I covered a few “sound” rumors floating around the web yesterday, but as I pointed out, they were just that… rumors. So which are rumors and which are facts? Certainly the FCC filing for a new PS3 SKU is hard evidence. But what does this really mean? We all like to jump to the next conclusion that it’s the 40GB (budget) PS3 coming to save the day. The fact is we really don’t know what this FCC data really represents just yet. So first, we need to separate fact from rumor.
This is exactly why this thread over at PS3Forums was created. The thread gathers all known facts, organizes them, and keeps the rumors out. Examining the thread closely, one can find some news worthy facts gathered from the recent FCC filings from Sony. Here are differences found when comparing the new SKU from the previous SKUs:
And I’m sure there are more facts to be uncovered in the coming days. Again, one cannot draw proof that a new SKU is coming just yet, nor if it’s going to have a 40GB hard drive or dual shock controller. The facts provided are just FCC tests done to a new registered SKU. This does not guarantee a new SKU is on its way. It only proves that a new SKU has been tested – simple as that.
Also according to the thread are reports that Sony has not been too happy with FCC data leaking onto the net. It’s obviously too late now, so I suspect we’ll eventually be hearing something from Sony within the next month or so. I mean there’s no reason to hold back now is there?

A bit more info surfaced today from Italy about the EU price being 399 Euros would would probably be £279 UK price.
