ESA Looks After Its Own on Wikipedia

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which according to Wikipedia is the most the rock’em sock’em trade association in the United States, may be editing Wikipedia articles in their favor. According to GamePolitics.com, the ESA has been editing articles on modchips and a popular abandonware website by removing equivocal statements since August 2006.

In the article on modchips for example, “someone at ESA deleted a nuanced discussion of mod chip legality, replacing it with a flat assertion that mod chips are illegal.” This year, federal agents carried out a number of raids looking for mod chips. Controversy has surrounded the raids, as the legality of modchips is still disputed, since they serve legitimate purposes beside playing copyrighted games.
