I’ve given EA games bad reviews before, I’ve given Eidos bad reviews before.. maybe the difference comes from the fact that at least in the print side my income does not get generated by video game companies but general advertisers. Then again no one really reads any of my stuff as authoritative because I don’t write for IGN or CNet or Kotaku.. which is a sad statement on the industry and gamers as a whole. Not because my content is that good that it should be held up as gospel, but because gamers continue to flock to these sites and disdain anyone outside that system a lot of the time.

Present company excluded of course.

Yes, yes and yes…. the spam and stupidity needed to be deleted on the Eidos forums- but further fuel should not be added to the fire and get the panties belonging to fanboys even more in a twist than they already are. That is exactly what deleting certain threads have done and until someone comes along and puts all of the rumors and finger pointing to rest it will continue to spiral out of control like most things on the net do.

When we all finally find out IF… I repeat IF… he was fired because of giving the game a bad review, it will send waves of fright through reviewers who will then presume that they need to be careful because if you give the latest EA game (for example) a bad review you will get axed because they will no longer give the company you work for advertisement money.

But like I said in my post, “Until official word surfaces regarding the actual events that transpired over this unfortunate situation, we will all just have to sit and wait”.

It does not make Eidos more or less guilty if the facts bear out they had an impact on his termination.. CNet bears that responsibility.. and Jeff himself if he did something to violate the company policy that led to his firing. I also think it interesting that the video review is far more negative than his print version.. but who knows why that might be.

If nothing else Kane & Lynch just got more attention because of this – Good or Bad.

I agree that once you post a comment that it is no longer yours, and I also agree that they have every right to do whatever they wish with their forums. However, deleting all of the threads, etc just makes them look guilty. The professional thing would have been to post an announcement, tell the folks to take their blabber elsewhere, and then lock the thread. Otherwise, you take the risk that any future traffic to your site from the posters and their buddies will cease to exist and that is the last thing Eidos needs right now – especially if they are indeed guilty of acting like irate toddlers.

@the topic in general: No one really knows what happened yet. Maybe he left of his own accord, maybe he was fired. Maybe Eidos had something to do with it, and maybe they didn’t.

Rampant speculation means nothing. While we can report on the fact that there is a controversy on the subject, anyone reading this report should realize that there are no facts to support any conclusion yet. Perhaps we’ll hear more details in the future, and maybe we won’t.

You can’t blame Eidos for deleting derogatory posts on their own forums, especially if they feel they had nothing to do with the situation. When you post on any forum, you basically agree that your content is no longer yours, and the owners of that forum can do as they like with it.

The best course of action here is to wait, and see what develops.
