red 5 logo East/West Hybrid MMO: Red 5 Interview with Scott Youngblood & Rob GarrettWhen Blizzard veterans broke off to form their own MMO start-up, Red 5 Studios, they had a challenge in mind. Scott Youngblood and Rob Garrett tell WarCry about Red 5, innovation in the MMO field and plans for their unannounced MMO at the Austin Game Developer’s Conference.

“We’re going to change the way people look at MMOs,” Youngblood told WarCry.

Red 5 Studios hopes to reinvent the things that are expected of the MMO genre. The studio intends to create entertainment for people who don’t have a lot of time to invest and create a world that players can truly influence. These have been set out as goals for many MMOs, but none have achieved them so far.

“Players will be important in our world in ways that they never were before,” Youngblood guaranteed.

Undaunted by NCsoft’s disastrous first attempt at Tabula Rasa, they also intend to fuse eastern and western style MMOs into a game with global appeal. Red 5 is a young, growing studio. With Eastern and Western offices working in tandem and a Korean publisher, the studio is hoping this “cross pollination” of ideas will yield them the success that eluded NCsoft.
