Early EGM Reviews for Lair Look Grim

A scan from the upcoming issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly has been circling different forums that shows their review scores for the highly-anticipated Lair, and they’re not looking too great. As you can see above, three different reviewers have given the game scores ranging from a 5/10 to a 6/10. While these aren’t terrible, they are noticeably lower than most people were predicting, as this is the primary game PS3 owners have been foaming at the mouth over since the system’s launch. Unfortunately, due to the constraints of the scan, the only reason for these scores that can be seen is that the combat and controls are apparently awkward.
I wouldn’t rule out the game just yet though, as these are still early reviews and the hype has already built up enough for this game to become a best seller. We’ll have to see when the game ships on August 14th.

why did you post this shite review and not the one where play magazine gave it a 9/10? i mean, they say they don’t like the controls, and that knocks off 5 points? last i checked games were reviewed in sections, ie: graphics, gameplay, controls, etc..,
I disagree THELORD… Gameplay being the main component of any game… Being the component which makes a game playable not playable or a hell of a lot of fun to play… The rest is just icing.
@the_tombo, good point, but i suggest you try some motion flying, rent blazing angels, it sucks, but gives you a feel for motion control, and i like it and can’t understand why these ppl didn’t get the hang of it. it just confuses me, i mean, 9/10 all the way to 5/10, what were these guys smoking? and to Jonathan, again, why not post the play mag review?
i wont argue with either of you guys. They all are important to any game. all the factors make up a good game. It can only take one major flaw to ruin the entire game.
There was an article a few months ago with the Factor 5 president comparing Lairs engine to the Gears of War engine. They made comments on Gears of War world vs their world. Well not to stir old embers, but Gears of War is a proven Hit. I have no pity for this poor review of Lair. Serves them right. Maby next time they will wait before they comment on such a good game like Gears or War. here is a link to that old articile.

As for that review, its only one review, im sure some will give it a great one. i dont own a PS3 so i cannot comment on that game or care about it.
Regardless of the reviews, you got to ask if anybody that doesn’t own a PS3 is really is looking forward to a game where you fly around on top of dinosaur-like creatures. How original is that? Mario riding on a flying Yoshi, anybody? How about Dinotopia?
Honestly, some people were giving a lot of hype to this game. Trying to make it a system seller. But it isn’t. Only PS3 owners could even consider buying this one. The only people that I have seen talking about this game are PS3 users. It’s like an inside joke that only a PS3 can understand. Similar to Nintendo fans talking about Pikmin or MS fans talking about Viva Pinata. Lair is among those games. Games that cater to their user base exclusively.

Erm … Play Magazine is the same mag that gave the last Sonic the Hedgehog disaster a 10!!! A perfect score for one of the year’s worst, yeah reference that mag.
dude who gives a shit if its a good game or a bad game…..the people who are “foaming” at the mouth fo this game will go and buy it and the people that dont like it like queer ass ultraviolet will not…..simple as that…..no reason to complain…..dosent matter what the reviews say the people that want it will get it and those who dont wont…..

Its funny how you ignore the good reviews (7.25/10, 7.5/10) and say it sucks based on the headline seeking bad ones.
I played Lair its just awfull Currently using my PS3 for a blue ray player thats about it got two games for my PS3 got 15 !!!!! for my 360 that says it all really come on sony give us some decent games to play and stop over hyping a game and get rid of the siraxxis it sucks
There have been -very- few games that have sold extremely well in spite of bad press, to say that reviews don’t matter is laughable as they usually control the ebb and flow of how games sell, this is the reason why gaming review sites/magazines are out like crazy.
Norbit, there were -two- good reviews about Lair….go ahead and bury your head in the sand -yet again- when something goes wrong with your shiny overpriced piece of plastic…i swear your hatred on -anything- that goes wrong with the PS3 is so predictable i could set my watch to it.
