EA has stated that the company will now be offering a free shooting game titled Battlefield Heroes – this will be the Electronic Art’s first web-based title to be supported only by advertising sales.
Featuring cartoon-style graphics, Battlefield Heroes will allow players to customize both the characters and plot strategy and will match players with equal abilities when going up against another opponent. Promising to be simpler than the previous installments, the target gaming session will last approximately 10 to 15 minutes and will be released sometime this summer.
While this is not EA’s first foray into the free online gaming realm, it is indeed its first game to be solely funded by advertisements. This new version of Battlefield Heroes is part of a strategy to not only gain new players but to also fuel EA’s growth with online ad revenue.

this is battlefield’s copy of team fortress 2. TF2 is awesome and EA and Dice suck now that they made this. Granted its free but if it was a game needing to be paid for. I would hate it even more. EA owns rights to Orange Box anyway so why would they do this… Stupid people
@ Mike – Firstly, the game is going to be based on ideas that the community want. Which should be good. Secondly, it’s going to be free, so can’t complain there. Thirdly, it’s going to run on low spec PCs, which means yay for us who have slightly better than low spec. Fourthly…you’re complaining that the graphics are reminiscent of an awesome game and because of that, this must automatically make the developers sucky? I never knew that bucking the trend meant that you had to suck…otherwise I’m sure Valve would’ve made TF2 in a similar vain to CSS (God help us on that one).
In stead, I’m going to look forward to this, fine graphics or not and see what they come up with. Still, I’m more interested in Bad Company, but this should nonetheless prove to be interesting, even if it still vaguely sounds like Medal of Honour with vehicles.
Yeah!
i suppose there’s no need for the whole “cough… tf2 clone… cough” bit is there? of course not
but what the hell, it’s free. the original enemy territory was free and that game was one of the BEST online FPS games ever made. what will make this game succeed is an SDK. if the community can make maps and mods, this game just might make it.
Wow I thought I was the only one thinking this was a tf2 rip.
I’m going to try it though…
yea ill try it but i hate game company’s ripping off other companys way of doing things TF 2 is cartoony and funny. It works very well with balanceing. Battlefield for me seemed to always be a little more…. harder? People can get to good at it mean while tf2 is still balanced. Also I think Bad Company will be kick ass but I was stating my opinion so just leave it be.
