EA to Incorporate Real-Time Weather into Sports Titles

Why is it that it seems the most realism is coming from sports games these days? Electronic Arts seems to be on their game.
An article in Wired today revealed that EA is going to be teaming up with The Weather Channel to bring real-time weather to whatever area of the nation you are playing in. So if you’re playing against the Seattle Seahawks on their home turf, most likely you’ll be seeing grey skies. But with the Arizona Sun Devils on the other hand, you will be playing under sunny skies. Weather depending, of course.
“Rain will cause more fumbles, you’ll see players breathe in the cold, and they’ll get tired when it’s hot,” Tyrone Miller, a spokesman for EA Sports, told Wired. Weather which is affected by real-life weather conditions which affects the gameplay is a pretty awesome addition, but there are limits to just how real it is going to get.
For instance, if a player gets injured in real life, he won’t be taken out of commission in the game, because it doesn’t add to the experience of the game. “Just because it happens in real life doesn’t mean you want it in your game. We’re always looking to push it to the next level, but we still want to give players their fantasy fulfillment,” Miller said in the article.
For now, real-time weather is available in NCAA 08 Football on Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3.

I like that idea of increased risk of fumbles. It would be nice if players could lose their footing if they try to juke and spin too much.
