I don’t know how many of of you are into Collectible Card Games (CCGs). Personally, I can remember a time when a good portion of my disposable income was consumed with Magic: The Gathering cards.

You can even get the thrill of opening all those new booster packs by buying your online boosters. Then,. you can build up your most powerful deck to engage in battles with other players or AI opponents. Some are based around head-to-head combat, like Magic, and some offer a more RTS style of gameplay.

Take for instance, EA’s Battleforge. Battleforge is an online RTS CCG that comes complete with four ready-made card decks, each based on an element. Players also get 3000 Battlefogre points with their purchase, allowing them to pick up an additional 12 booster packs. This gives a starting playing 160 cards to work with.

You can play the entire game with just these starting cards or, if you like, add more boosters for 250 Battleforge points each. A booster will contain 8 cards, with one rare or ultra-rare card in every booster. Basically, you can have as many cards as you are comfortable buying.

You can grab all the info on the demo and the new, reduced pricing after the break.

In the demo, you’ll get a random deck and a limited selection of maps, some player vs. player (PvP), and some player vs. environment (PvE). If you like the demo, you can upgrade to the full game from the in-game menu.

Producer Michael Krach said, “BattleForge is a specialized RTS which has so much more to offer to the players whether they are straight up RTS fans or collectible card gamers. The battles are becoming more epic as the players skills are advancing. There has never been a better time to get into the action on BattleForge.”

I’d have to agree, since EA has dropped the price of Battleforge to $29.99. Like many CCGs, there’s no subscription fee for playing the game, so head over to the Battleforge site if you want to give this CCG a test drive.
