EA Annouces Dead Space

EA has announced they will be releasing a new sci-fi horror game, named Dead Space. This new addition to the survival horror genre will have players stepping into the role of Isaac Clarke, an engineer sent to fix the communications system on a deep space mining ship. Unfortunately, the crew has been taken over by an alien infestation, and you must now try and survive out in the middle of space. Says Executive Producer, Glen Schofield:
“This team has worked on some tremendous properties but we have always wanted to work on something that was darker and creepier. We are all such huge fans of the horror and sci-fi genres; we wanted to create the most terrifying game we could, and keep the player on the edge of his seat the entire time.”
You can check for more information about the game at the official site. Right now though, there’s really only a forum and a sign-up for their newsletter, all contained in one really creepy flash page. Dead Space should be out in Fall of next year on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Sorry, but ‘yawn’. Come on EA. You’re one of the biggest game publishers (and a minor developer) and the best you can come up with is a totally unoriginal game with a story that will play with something clearly akin to Resident Evil…in space. If it’s an FPS, I definitely won’t be getting it. If it’s anything else, it might warrant my attention…for a fleeting moment.
I expect more from EA. Maybe something like the 1.4 patch for Battlefield 2142 or some bloody balance in CnC3.
Yeah, I gotta agree on that. The press release on it pretty just said: “It’s a survival horror game, but in space…with aliens!” Like that hasn’t been done for years now.
Now that you mention it, the press release is ripe for parody.
“These 3 people have worked on some done-before properties, but had always wanted to half-work on something (please see EA’s policy) a bit more darker and creepier, but only a bit more, so that they still pull in the ‘The Sims’ gamers. A few gamers like the done-to-death survival horror game, so that’s why we’re bringing you Resident Evil…in Space…wait, sorry, Doom. We wanted to create something scary enough to shock the gaming nation, so we’re trying to release a game with no bugs or glitches and is totally balanced.”
Man you guys hate EA lol… The way I see it, we havent had a good “alien” (not zombie) game in a while, prey sucked imo. The way the graphics are turning out now it might not be a bad idea, im kind of tired of the same old battlefield crap… deadspace seems to be like the alien movie series (which I would love a remake of the games, with out gfx now) so it cant be THAT bad… lets see what EA can turn out before I jujmp the gun…
Also, it seems nowadays every game gets released with bugs, so I dont blame EA heh.
Actually, there is a lot of stuff about this title just coming to the public, and I have to say I’m intrigued. What I’ve read likens the game to the movie ‘Event Horizon.’
That’s a no-lose right there. Furthermore, this is apparently the pet project of a development team within EA that has wanted to make this game for some time, and only recently received approval to move forward on it. It sounds like it’s someone’s baby, and from the looks of what I’ve seen so far, it’s liable to be a pretty good one.
imo survival horror works best when it uses settings similar to ones environs.
but it sounds interesting enough, I might give it a shot.
I recommend you guys pick up the latest Game Informer magazine. The featured article is about this very game and what the developers talk about in the article really make this game that much more interesting than what was released in the press release.
that’s probably it, the press release was really lax on the details, other than the fact that there are aliens and you’re in space. games like that have been kind of hit or miss for the past few years. personally though, i get kind of tired of shooting aliens these days, but for some reason i never get tired of killing nazis.
Yeah the Game Informer issue really went in depth. It sounds very promising.
PLEASE READ
this game is gonna own. people rip on it because they dont know about it. yea the game story is kinda common (out in space killing alien/zombi-mabobs) but whats awesome about it is that its gonna be twisted scary (the creatures are unbelieveably nasty and each one is dispacthed in its own way with its own reaction to the damage its taken. the weapons in the game arent even meant to be weapons. i think its 3do or EA but they said that they want to express the fact that the main charecter isent the master chief, hes not made for fighting, hes just a lowly engineer in a really bad place. the creatures are hellishly freaky. theres some gross-o creatures that are “pregnant” and if you shoot em in the wrong spot they pop and in an instant you have “bats” swarming you and they x-pregnant zombiecreature already grappling you with its tentacles. i dont think its a big deal but the game makers did a bunch of research on scary movies and games just, overall how to scare people really good but hey, more to love eh? again, its just a matter of reading up on a game before you critique it badly.
