There are no shots at Grand Theft Auto in the the new screenshots of Saints Row 2, but they’re still worth checking out if you haven’t already gotten your fix of violent, open-world games this year. The game looks pretty good, judging by these stills, even if the “Pimps ‘n Hos” gang style thing just strikes me as somehow being pretentious.
I’ve already got a pre-order down on the game (because I’m a nice guy and like to help out the people working at GameStop), but even as big a fan of the genre as I am, I’m beginning to feel a little burned out on this style of open world game. Mercenaries 2 is close to being released, I played more than my fair share of GTA IV, and I still find myself playing Crackdown from time to time. But I can’t help but feel like many of these games aren’t innovating enough to justify their release.

Innovating or not, i found the original Saints Row much more pleasing (SP wise) than the overhyped GTA4.
I disagree. That isn’t to say I didn’t enjoy Saints Row, but I found GTA IV to be a much more entertaining game.
I’m with Raw on this one.
With the exception of the Reputation requirement to continue with the story, Saints Row was generally a much more fun game to play through than GTA4.
I like the amount you can customize your gang in this release of SR. At least it’s not like in SR1, or GTA: SA, where you can play as you choose, but the rest of your gang is always the same.
GTA & Saints Row are completley diffrent yea okay they both have bads and goods so what just buy both and enjoy.
I have to agree. Saints row has a much bigger fun factor that GTA IV. I played GTA IV non-stop for 4 days, and then never again. I never finished the singleplayer. It got boring.
Saints Row I played for at least a month. Finished single player, did all of the extra missions and collected and upgraded every car. Got every special weapon. And then kept playing just for fun.
I went back and tried it again after playing GTA IV just to see how it held up. The graphics looked dated and the car’s physics were horrid, but… I ended up getting stuck on it for another week, playing through again.
Even after all this time and having already played it, Saints Row 1 still beats GTA IV for me. More action, more explosions, more things to do and more fun all around.
I can’t wait to see what Saints Row 2 has in store.
