As was expected, Sony spent a large part of their E3 press conference stressing the many upcoming exclusives for the Playstation 3 that just may warrant their new price tag. They prefaced the numerous game announcements with a reminder that the 60 GB PS3’s price is dropping to $499, while a new 80 GB model will be released soon for $599. They also announced a new partnership with developer NCsoft — known for a number of MMORPGs, such as City of Heroes and the upcoming Tabula Rasa — for several exclusive online titles.

Then of course they jumped right into it with a slew of gameplay footage from a number of upcoming PS3 exclusives, including Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Folklore, Heavenly Sword, NBA ‘08, and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. They took a little extra time to discuss Little Big Planet and its tagline, “Play, Create, Share,” which basically means that the game is built to evolve over time depending on the users. Most of the games’ footage was spliced together with interviews where developers talked about how these games were only possible on Sony’s system.

They also made a brand new announcement with a trailer for a game titled “Infamous,” which will be developed by Suckerpunch, the guys behind the Sly Cooper franchise. The game, which is slated for next year, will put the player in the shoes of a man basically given superpowers. From there he’ll have to struggle between being a hero or an anti-hero in a sandbox-style world.

Trailers were also shown off for the next Gran Turismo, which will have full online functionality, and Metal Gear Solid 4, which had such a strong presence that it deserved its own post. Sony closed the event with a lengthy trailer for Killzone 2 that featured all real-time footage and looked freakin’ amazing. It all made for a truly impressive showcase.
