For those who like to plan their trips far, far in advance: you might want to note that the 2008 E for All expo has been pushed back into October. The expo will still be held at the LA Convention Center, but will now take place on Oct. 3-5. According to IDG World, who sponsors the event:

While our original intention was to announce the new dates for E for All 2008 with other event announcements that are forthcoming, in response to inquiries from several members of the media today, we are pleased to confirm that the dates for this year’s E for All event will be October 3-5 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC). We are very excited to be holding the event in October, a decision that reflects the great success of the last year’s event — also held in October — as well as the positive feedback from exhibitors and attendees about the Fall timing. In addition, these dates will overlap with the inaugural GreenXchange environmental event, produced by IDG World Expo and VerdeXchange, scheduled to take place October 1-3 at the LACC, providing efficiencies for some attendees and exhibitors. We sincerely appreciate the ongoing support of the game community, and look forward to another terrific E for All in 2008.

While they don’t explicitly mention it, I’d bet part of the reason they changed it from the original dates of Aug. 28-30 was to avoid directly competing with the wildly successful Penny Arcade Expo, which had around 37,000 attendees last year. Some people have been a little wary about the future of E for All — several reports described it as pretty dull after the first day — so we’ll have to see how it holds up this year.

Bottom line, they thought changing the structure of E3 would be a good thing. It wasn’t, so bring back the glitz, insanity, and of course the booth babes and rock the house once again!
