Dreaming of a New Xbox 360 Dashboard

With all this talk of the in-game XMB (and by “all this talk” I mean all of the things I’ve been writing), it’s made me remember how great the Xbox 360 dashboard was when I first got my Xbox 360. Compare that with the systems from just a generation ago, and it was a tremendous leap forward. But, years have passed, and we all expect bigger and better things constantly. Well, we haven’t gotten much in the way of bigger and better when it comes to the dashboard. Sure, there’ve been additions like the Marketplace blade and the Games Library, but it’s still very much the same at its base. And that base has begun to show its age as time has passed.

As for what can be done, there’s any number of things. Mik from Platform Nation did some brainstorming and came up with a number of ideas for how Microsoft could revamp the dashboard, including some impressive graphics like the one above. (What can I say? I’m easily impressed by graphics in light of how terrible I am with them.) It’s definitely worth checking out. While I wouldn’t count on a complete revamp like he’s suggesting, the more support people throw behind an idea like this, the more pressured Microsoft will be to do something.

Thanks Chris for helping on spreading this. Hopefully MS does take notice as this is just to awesome and something needs to be changed on the dashboard even if it isn't quite this much of a change.

I have always hated how slow and irresponsive the ingame dashboard blade is, and how it lags up the game. This shows that microsoft doesn't know how to make OS's or at least make them efficient. But anyway, it still was unique when it came out, and it did improve the console gaming world.

Yeah, the latest dash version is way to clunky, laggy and a bit fuzzy to navigate.
In alot of ways it was a step backwards.
Don't get me wrong i love XBL but it could be quicker and easier.
